HuskyMatt and myself spent the morning on the foothills of Mount Beckworth cutting up a Yellow Box tree that had fallen over after it had been burned by a slight mishap. The big girl got a run today. HuskyMatt cutting up the limbs. I worked on the trunk. HuskyMatt cooked us some burgers while I was loading my trailer. I got a nice trailer load. When I started unloading I found three of these little guys. I gave them a new home in my Redgum stack. Thanks again HuskyMatt for taking me out to your honey hole and cooking lunch, it was a good day out. I still have not finished splitting that gnarly twisted grain wood, I hope to finish it up in the morning before it rains.
I see you did some whacking to get them into quarters! Very nice load. I hope your geckos make a good living eating bugs in your stacks.
Yes I did some noodling as well, Yellow Box is notoriously hard to split, and dense it's quite heavy solid wood. I do too. I felt a little guilty as I had cut up there home and relocated them 26 miles away. So I placed them in my Redgum stack as it will probably be the last to be consumed. On a side note when typing Redgum make sure that the spell check does NOT change the word. I almost had the ultimate embarrassing Clemcorrect of all time! Oh am I glad I proof read this before hitting post reply.
Great pics! Always cool to see trees/wood from other parts of the world! What was the "slight mishap" that ' pre seasoned' the wood?
I had to think of what word it typed and got a good laugh when i figured it out. Nice work guys. Its always fun to GTG with another member and make firewood. That yellow box grain looked gnarly and i questioned how hard it is to hand split.
That wood must be a great heating wood. By the looks of things it does appear it has cooled off some. Good for you. Nice pictures of the critter. Did you know you also have a picture of a bear there? Or maybe I'm the only one to see it? Here's another Australian critter.
It was great to get you out there again making easy work of it with the big 88 and 66. Still lots more to clean up out there and we'll do it again soon hopefully.
The farmers son had a fire out there cleaning up a bit and left it. The wind picked up and got into 4 trees there. The other trees are still standing but time will tell if they survive? Eucalypts are pretty resilliant normally. This one that fell had a bit of rot in it.
Was the title meant to go with the 12 days of Christmas song? Maybe it was just on my mind because we were playing it for the kids a bit early this year. I recognize the lizard; we had them in Florida growing up. Of course they are “invasive” down there, but so are about half the species. Nice score btw!
If you're handling the newt-looking thing it's either non-native/introduced or the only rare non-venomous/poisonous creature on the big island.
