    That is very cool!
We hear them all the time, Barred and Great Horn, but we hardly get to see them.

Have you ever seen a great horned owl get a cat?

The great horned owls were extra loud last night. Full moon, clear and cold.

Nope they just disappear. Not trying to make light of it, my wife is devastated when it happens.

    That’s a great picture.
Have so many owls around here and see them on rare occasions.
Years ago a barred owl ended up in my garden after hanging around for a few days tried to get into a rescue but it passed.
Trying to get one mounted under any circumstance is near impossible after discussing with the DNR

A Google search told me this happens a lot, even with a full grown cat. I never would have guessed.

Better than a barn cat. No mice in your piles this year

Same here. Only way I could have it mounted was to then donate it to a school classroom...

We had a couple indoor/outdoor cats disappear and ive suggested that to the GF and she doesnt wanna think it. We hear owls from time to time but not sure of species. One lone cat now stays indoors.
He is 18+lbs and i dont think an owl could carry him! Not that id wanna see him try.

There was at least 1 article that mentioned a 17 lb cat that was killed by a great horned owl.

We have seen several Great Horny Owls around here when there was a barn behind our property. Every Fall we will see and hear Great Grey Owls as they move south in front of the first real cold push from the north. At night I will hear them at a distance and call back to them. They will eventually move to the trees right above our house to investigate my calls. One year I think this one GGO that hung around for a while thought we were engaged!

I had a Snow Owl here a couple winters back, that was really cool to see. He hunted rabbits & mice for several days. Awesome animals.
