I've seen this big Post Oak for several years, when I was in the area. I mentioned to Miz Carol that it was leaning over the road, would be a bad day if it fell. Well, during TS Sally it did. Went across this Hwy. Landed on the house, looks like minor damage. Took out 2 utility poles, power and phone lines The city cut the tops back and pushed trunk out of the road We saw it Wed, I found out the Methodist Church owned the lot and tree. Got permission to clean it up, so Miz Carol and I started on it Thursday morning about 9. It's about 14 miles 1 way, but we still managed to get 3 dump trailer loads done. 1st load 2nd load, back and front 3rd load, back and front Had a great time with the MS461/32" bar. This was at the top of the trunk, right below where knotty piece was. Had decent temps, got to low 80s. Used our huskihl XS362 and Husky 55 too. We got all the trunk home, still have the big pile of tops and clean up yard across the street, probably another 1 or 2 loads left. Probably get that done Monday.
That’s a big tree. Nice job working up that monster!!! How’d you get the pieces into the dump trailer?
How old do you think it is? I took an oak blowdown about that size and counted 104 or 114 rings. I can’t remember which. The first few rings were rotted out.
I ate me spinach... This isn't one of those logs, but this is the set-up we use for the big stuff. Have a set of forks for the smaller logs.
Yes sir. They asked what we were gonna charge them, told them $0, just wanted the wood. I'm sure the blessing will get passed along...
