No this isnt a thread about lover's lane or Superman's GF! Gravel road that accesses a dumping ground for dirt. gravel, pavement scraps etc. ive nicknamed that as ive scoed BL there twice with more to come. I scrounged an Isaias felled BL here last month and still had some the top to retrieve. Checked it out after the tornado a month ago and more BL down. Nice big one too...20" DBH. Had to cut a tree of Heaven (ailanthus) to get in there and took some rounds of it for now. Not a tree id normally scrounge but too easy to leave. IMG_3207.JPG IMG_3206.JPG PITA to buck top of previous tree top i left behind. Massive vine entangle. IMG_3208.JPG
IMG_3212.JPG IMG_3211.JPG Huge poison ivy vine rather typical of BL around here. Maybe the biggest ive ever removed from a tree. Carefully cut it and spent more time removing PI than limbing. IMG_3210.JPG IMG_3209.JPG
Never seen a PI burl! IMG_3214.JPG
Found ants in several rounds. Split and drop to knock em out rather than bring em home. Prior three BL scores had none. IMG_3213.JPG
Nice heaping load. About three hours worth of work. It was humid, upper part of tree in a tangle on rough terrain so i took my time. IMG_3217.JPG IMG_3218.JPG with more to get from same tree. IMG_3215.JPG IMG_3216.JPG
This was the loser from my "Hickory or black locust" thread from Friday and you guys were right jo191145, Biddleman, & farmer steve ! I was getting both. coreboy83 there was no 30" SD oak to get...sorry!
Split it all this afternoon. IMG_3219.JPG

Awesome score, beyond impressed due to the poison ivy situation. We all knew that locust up for vote didn’t have a chance. I would be getting steroid shots if I tried that. If you are not immune, Tecnu is a miracle product for removing the poison ivy oil and it’s original purpose to remove radiation from fallout.

Ill know in a couple days if i was itching to get this score. :doh:
I was using the little saw to remove the PI and its sawdust was discharging onto my bare arms. I get it mildly when i do. I was trying to be careful but it doesnt take much.

Maybe another PU full from this tree. Top is into the woods and down an embankment so tough to get out. 5-6 other trees down...a couple 6", one 8", one 10, another maybe 12-14" A leaner, another into the woods, a couple tops. It will live up to the name i gave it.
Yes the mania :loco:  is very real...lovin' every minute of it. I think sirbuildalot has it now too!
Whats the biggest diameter BL you ever scored? One from Ron's was good sized.

I had intended to go here today anyhow, but that hickory was waiting for town to PU and take away. I wanted to grab it first anyhow! This locust was blocking the road. A couple loads were dumped and more wouldve completely blocked the way.

Hmnn, not sure. I’ve had some good sized ones. Biggest is a stump flare my 28” bar won’t reach through. I think the biggest might be the trunk from East Haddam score that I thought was two trees down but was just one. Joe Valenti got those pieces.

Any chance to get a rope or chain tied off to the log and pull it out with your truck?

I still have to get the biggest from that score. Actually several more over there to come down.

I haven't split any yet other than a couple pieces to do a comparison. I plan to make and fill a few more firewood boxes. Two or three for the Locust and one for the Elm. I'll let you know once I split it.

Nice score!! I grabbed a couple of nice sized rounds down the street from me last year sitting on the curb.

Recently I had a dead spotted lanternfly in my cherrywood stacks. Started doing some reading on them and a lot of mention about the tree of heaven and spotted lanternflies. Both invasive species although I believe the tree of heaven was purposefully introduced.

Well, im driving this afternoon and my right arm was itchy...rash! PI got me. Few spots on left arm and discovered some on my chest a little while ago. Mustve soaked through the dri core shirt as i was sweating a lot yesterday. Put some calamine on it.

I have to be honest with myself and with all of you. I was a little disappointed that Brads face wasn’t on the poster like the cliff pic. Great try Eric, great try.
