Congrats on the little one Woodsman I hope your hernia isn't too bad. I never felt mine when it happened, but later it felt like someone was pulling my insides out. It has only acted up on me twice, but I'm always conscious of it when doing heavy lifting and such.
new to this thread. What a good one it is. Love the story line going in it. Hope the birth goes well. That is an exciting time in your life. Best of luck as for the hernia, as you have planned, get it evaluated and consider your options. Either way, it is going to slow you down some. If you want it to heal, you have to behave. I had bilateral ones that no longer bother me. But I don't do (can't do) anything to antagonize the problem. Age and disability. Your wood piles. Let them be where they are until you are ready to deal with them. I know you can hear them calling out to you, but you must take care of yourself if you are going to be in any shape to take care of the rest of the farm. You want to be able to pick up and swing that new kid don't you!
Thanks everyone! We welcomed the little dude/future wood hoarder to the world last Thursday evening! My wife is pretty much the biggest bada$$ I now know. Twelve hours labor. Four hours of hardcore pushing. Just amazing. 9 lbs 1 oz. 20 3/4 inches. Absolutely the most incredible experience of my life. Can't get enough of the little guy. We got home on Saturday morning and have been pretty much just figuring out the routine with him since. I was able to get outside for a couple hours of wood work this morning. Felt good to do a little bit of physical activity after being pretty low key for the past week. Started chipping away at the pile dropped by the tree company a couple weeks ago. Some nice stuff in there. Lot more hardwood than I realized. Worked on the easily accessible and smaller stuff with the 445. Have to break out the bigger 391 to tackle the bigguns'. Couple trailer loads full behind the ATV and I called it quits. Feeling beat. Little dude had us up all last night.

Been a busy few weeks! We are deep into the harvest season and the farm is at full swing. Little Mason is doing great! I was finally able to finish cutting all the wood last week that was dropped off by the tree company. Trailered the splitter down and quartered all the big stuff. Chose to haul it up to the main pile with my truck in a couple trips rather than do load after load with the smaller ATV trailer. The pile grows! A few days later storm Isaias came through and knocked the power out for seven days. We were stuck between three trees down on the wires and across the road in one direction and two in the other for a couple days. Nothing like raising a newborn with no power for a week and no way out... Lost a 14" DBH sugar maple tree in the front sugar bush and one of the main leaders on a 200 year old sugar maple. That bummed me out. It'll all be in the splitter pile soon. In better news, I found a killer deal on one of my dream antique tractors and bit the bullet. Too many have slipped by and sold before I could even think about looking at them. This one almost did. 1948 Farmall Cub. It's in great condition. Needs just a little bit of work to the carburetor. Still runs well, though. It has a three point hitch and an enhanced PTO that the guy who sold it to the guy that I bought it from (two owners ago) used for an American vertical wood splitter. I have to do some research to figure out that setup. The cub PTO spins counterclockwise - most modern PTO driven implements aren't compatible with the cub. I'd like to be able to put it into the wood processing arsenal. Beyond that I intend to put the tractor through some light duty work here on our farm. Nothing major. Hauling a wood trailer and maple sap tank trailer. Grade the driveway with a rake and/or blade. Maybe mow with it. Skid some trees out of the front wood lot. What I'm really looking forward to is using it at work. I'd like to get a set of cultivators, a plow and some discs, and a seed hopper and put it to work doing what it was meant to. That'll all be in time. For now I'm getting to know the machine and planning out a little maintenance and TLC work for it in the coming weeks as time allows. Isn't she beautiful?!
7 days. WOW! Too bad about the sugar maple. Tractor is beautiful. Ive always thought the long steering wheel shaft was cool. Cant wait to see pics of you and the little guy on it! How's the hernia doing Adam?
Great looking tractor. We had one here when I was young. Mowed aloft of grass with a woods 60 inch deck.
Fired up the stove for the first time this season on the morning of September 19th! Little later than last year when first light happened on 9/13. But a four night stretch of temps straddling 32° felt really amazing! A couple night later and it dropped into the high 20s! Can’t beat it! Burned a carts worth of nothing but ash those mornings.
