Hickory was the winner of yesterday's vote (see my "Hickory or black locust" thread) so i hit that score this morning. 20" DBH pignut, tornado blow over from a month ago. Tree blocked road and snapped a utility pole. Screenshot_20200926-202042_2 (1).png Brush, logs cut hastily and pushed to one side. Discovered it yesterday. Stopped, got permission to park and cut in a parking lot of the business which was closed today. A PITA untangling the brush pulling logs out of it. Lots of smalls. Most of the bigger trunk section was gone. IMG_3186.JPG IMG_3187.JPG IMG_3188.JPG Had 3/4 load so decided to park on the street and buck a few rounds to top off the load. Maybe 15' of trunk still attached to rootball. A couple cones already there helped as a fairly busy road. Had to sledge and wedge them in half then isocore into quarters. Rare that i do that in the road!!! Heavy SOB's! Pic after i cut. The small rounds are spruce. Screenshot_20200926-202029_2.png
I think hickory is the heaviest wood to hoard. Truck really felt it in this load. Four saws worked it. IMG_3195.JPG IMG_3196.JPG IMG_3197.JPG
split maybe 75% and off to storage. Lots of skinnies. IMG_3198.JPG IMG_3200.JPG

I think Ford and Stihl owe you money from a testimonial standpoint. Great score!

Speaking of Stihl, did you ever get a 462? or any new saw? Ever finish that huge white oak?

Great job, buddy. Yep, that is a heavy load. I know how heavy that stuff is. Did you get a new top handle saw?. I must have missed it.

Your memory is amazing. I’m sure because it’s wood related. The remainder of the white oak is still there, it’s mine no one else is getting it. I’m just putting it off until the end of winter to go after. I need to burn some inventory, 4/5 year plan is my max capacity which I am at. Anything extra, is out of the sun and wind, and I can’t stand knowing it’s not drying properly. CAD has a strong grip, 261cm is happening for sure, I have the feeling noodling and cutting the remainder of that oak is going to be the end of my 20 year old me 390 that will be replaced with a 462. My scrounges are either perfect for a 261 or are so enormous no one else wants to tackle and fall into 462 or larger saw size.

I had bought it new back in April for a bucket job (also to replace a similar Husky top handle that gave me trouble for the last time) that got put on hold so it sat unused til last month when Isaias hit then it was put to good use. Handy little saw. Have you ever used a top handle?

Been away from the forum for a while. I see nobody has started the wood hoarding intervention for Brad yet. Haha.

Great score, Brad! Please don’t ever stop.

Good to hear from you. We had intended to camp up in your area but Covid and hot weather stopped us. Was going to stop in and visit! Always great to meet another FHC member!

Ill stop hoarding when im dead...maybe! If theres no trees in Heaven, im not going!

Looks like a great score. How does that stuff split? What model saw is that 3rd in line on the tailgate with the sloped back?

Its tougher than most. Fresh cut of course. If it sits it gets tougher to crack. Ive learned to split ASAP after cut. I hand split of course.
