The time has come to do something with the tore-up crusty seat on my Polaris Sportsman. Who makes a good seat cover, that holds up to the sun and elements?
Are you needing to recover it, or just put a "cover" it with a slip on one? I put a new Quad Works cover on my bayou and it seems to be made of a lot better material than the original one from 1991. It's got a lot more stretch to it. Surely that is due to it being made with a lot better material formulation than they had 30 years ago. It wasn't expensive, and it wasn't too bad to put on once I found a decent staple gun to use. Pneumatic would be best.
Great advice on the stapler! I recovered a snowmobile seat a few years back and an inexpensive unit from Harbor Freight worked perfectly. It should be a fairly straight forward process. Take your time and go side to side, checking things for evenness with every staple.
I did my quad seat 15 years ago and it was way easier than I thought it would be. It still looks great.
I almost goofed and ordered one- for a 4x4. Seems the 6x6 is different, so I'm checking to make certain that is the case.
It might be slightly different. At the back at least. Might want to check with the seat cover manufacturer.
Power stapler makes things easier for sure...a regular "manual" Stanley stapler doesn't easily drive the staples into those plastic seat pans...make the ole carpal tunnel flare up it will! As far as the cover...some of the aftermarket ones are good, some not so much...I know big help, right?!
Funny enough, but I scored an electric corded black and Decker stapler today too. I'll report on how well it works on the bayou seat cover. My manual stapler didn't seat every staple all the way.
I've got a pneumatic Porter/Cable narrow crown stapler, but I don't think it's the right tool for this job. I'll have to check on electric staplers. What- 3/8" staple size?
Sounds right...can't remember for sure though...has to be long enough to get into the pan enough to hold, but not so long as to go through in the "thin" areas...might not hurt to pull one of the old staples and check the length.
3/8" sounds about right. 1/4 was too short, and longer, is too long. At least on the Kawasaki bayou...
