4 ibc totes (275 gallon) filled to the brim with a mix of maple, black locust, red oak, but mostly spruce shorties. I like not running out of stuff. I do the same with windshield washer fluid, motor oil, gatorade, toilet paper, paper towels, and because of covid I've got 2000 3-ply disposable masks inbound. All kindling chopped by hand with a hatchet. To quote the great Mel Brooks...... "It's good to be the king!" Errrr.....good thing I took a picture of me gatorade. Looks like it's about to topple over!
2020 has turned a lot of "normal" people into hoarders of every kind. I don't know what this winter will bring for a fresh crisis, but rest assured if the solution to it involves massive amounts of firewood, I've got it covered Oh and thanks for reminding me, I've got to work on my own kindling stash. All I have at the moment are a couple plastic trash cans full of white pine/blue spruce kindling. I'm willing to stick my neck out here and take a guess that most of the people on this forum are a little more prepared than the average slob in a crisis situation. At least in a short-term crisis...
So YOU were the cause of the TP shortage this spring! Pretty brave of you to out yourself like that...LOL
Haha I don't hoard too many things....just the things I used to always run out of. I have two of those fancy Toto bid toilet seats so TP is used to dab my behind dry (and to double check if course!) But all kidding aside I do think it wise to have some drinking water on hand and other necessities. This winter my kids will be remote only for school. That's 3 more bodies to heat when typically it's only me....and I don't plan on running the heat at all. I will be toasty and enjoying the fruits of my labor for the past year. And if I want to go crazy and put that extra handful of kindling in there....well by golly I'll do it and have no regrets!! Yeah I did the plastic cans of kindling but it didn't work for me very well. First of those damm Brute garbage cans are like $50 each and while I do love having so many, it would have been wiser to get the totes earlier at $25 each that hold five times the amount of one garbage can. I'm going to be laughing at my racist $(&-#+!!!": neighbor when 8 get my utility bill.
If i were to venture an opinion, id say you have a hoarding problem. Glad that firewood is part of it! You wouldnt have a couple can of Lysol? Been of the list since before covid.
I, unlike my wife, hoard useful things.....that I use.......that we all use.........whereas she hoards clothes she doesn't fit any more, plastic bags stuffed so hard into the drawer you can't even open it.........and paper bags by the ton. I went a little nuts (I know, I know, a bit surprising) and cleaned out the house like a madman and threw out all kinds of chit (mostly hers, of course) that we just don't need. Bought 6 wire rack shelves that were amazing and now the basement is free to walk without a trip hazard every step of the way. I don't use lysol. However, that reminds me that I'm down to only 1 gallon of bar oil for my Makita.......
They were empty because I took that pic right after putting them together pretty much. So now they are full of stuff.
They don't make movies like that any more! My favorite scene was with Oedipus Rex. That scene just flies over the head of most people.
LordOfTheFlies do you have holes cut in the bottom of those totes for drainage? I've had kindling in 5 gallon pails with a few inches of water in them when they got left out and forgotten.
Yes. Holes everywhere on the bottom and sides. Only the top cover is solid. If I forget or it rains unexpectedly, I'm fine. That was one of the main reasons I didn't like the garbage cans. Didn't want to drill the sides and thus the airflow was severely compromised. That and the fact it was bulky having so many cans to manage.
Nice...a few spares to get you through the drought.... Speaking of that...Wipes are basically non existent... Found them once since the pandam hit... got a 4 pack at Costco... But they are always out of them... Anybody else finding them?
N Dont use them but havent been able to get a can of Lysol or disinfectant spray since March. Store shelves are usually stripped bar like the bread aisle before a snowstorm
That's awesome! I'm behind with my supply. I need to get splitting! Good thing the stuff dries fast....
I moved away from my hatchet this year and picked up one of these Kindling Crackers. Works great and a bit safer I feel now that I'm in my 60"s and the eye site is a little off. lol
