No more playing around part II...the three year plan

So how long is that row of pallets or the new stack? Looks awesome in the latter pictures when nearly full

 

It is 46 feet long x 5 feet high (actual wood is 5 feet not including runners or pallet thickness) 2 rows of 20” long splits

x2! for some reason this year seems tough to get going. "My get up and go got up and left" Maybe the cooler weather will give me some ambition.

 

Its official ladies and gentleman!!!

The stack is done!!! Official time of completion was 11:53 am. I had today off, so even though it started off soggy this morning (rained all day yesterday), it got pretty nice by 10:30ish.





I also started another stack. This one will only be 2 cords. Its all Red Oak so far, which i know several CT members frown upon, but I can't seem to find any of that Locust gold up in these parts!!! I do have to say, although Red Oak takes forever to dry, it has to be about the best splitting hardwood, and creating cribbed ends with Red Oak is so easy with the square splits.





New goal is to have this stack full, a 1/2 cord box of Red Maple/Birch, and about a cord of Cherry split by the October 1st.

My available stock right now is 7.5 cords in IBC cages, 8 cords in the woodshed, 6 cords in the recent stack, 1/3rd of a cord of Ash in the box, 1/2 cord of shorts and uglies, and maybe 1/4 cord in the newest stack. I have 7 cords in large Red Oak logs, and probably about 3/4 cord in smaller Red maple and Birch logs. The Cherry I plan to process is a dead tree still standing. If my math is correct, that'll be about 25-26 cords total when done, not including the 7 cords of large logs which I'll process next year.

The equipment is kinda nice also.

 

I couldn’t compete with Brad. The mans a myth.....a machine.....a legend!!!

 

According to the sticky chart, if I include my logs I’m a Firewood Freak, which is over 30 cords. Guess the next logical step is to go over 35 and become a Cordwood Corleone. We should add a new top tier, The Buzzsaw Brad!!!

 

I like Red Oak for ease of splitting and how clean it splits which means I can stack more and the stacks are more stable.
The neatness and symmetry of your stack is impressive.

I dont know if anyone else does this, but I sometimes look back at old threads to see what date or type of wood is in a certain stack, pile, etc.

 

I am going to start painting a date on my piles since I can’t remember how long they have existed.

 

I marked dates and wood type on my IBC cages.

 

That is primarily why I take pics when I stack wood.

 

Those are some nice straight stacks. Giving me some inspiration for my Ash

 

Got a little done today. Took down a few dead trees. Two Cherries, two Red Maples, and a White Oak.

I also made two firewood boxes out of old pallets. They each hold 54 cu. ft. when filled level, or about .42 cords.



The first box I filled up with Red maple and Black Birch







The second box will be 100% Cherry

I only just started to fill it

 

I did add to the Oak pile as well. It was odd, this White Oak split much easier than the stuff from my brothers. Both were dead standing. Not sure why the difference. Anyways...

Almost got it halfway filled. This stack will be 2 cords total for both rows when done





I also tried out my Super split mods. The new stabilizer legs work well.

And even more White Oak. I know the White oak was approx 10 cubic feet of wood, because I stacked it in my 13 cubic foot bucket after, and it was about 3/4 full. 10 cubic feet of White Oak is easily 500 lbs.

Are you going to cover the racks now, or wait a year or two?

 

I’m going to cut some old tarps so they go over the top and sides by a few inches on each side.

 

Usually i take a sharpie and write on a split on the upper corner of the stack or on the rack itself.
