Was loading wood at the mini honey hole late this afternoon when i found this garter snake under a board. He didnt run (well slither) away when i went for the camera. IMG_0837.JPG Cute little fella or lady. I dont know how to tell the gender of a snake! IMG_0838.JPG
Saw his shadow! Does that mean six more weeks of Summer?

I was covering some stacks at my friends yesterday when i ran into this guy. Dunno the species. IMG_0874.JPG IMG_0873.JPG IMG_0875.JPG IMG_0878.JPG
Looks like it had eaten a critter recently based on the bulge in its middle. I let it go unharmed. I think it was hissed off at me for taking its picture!

Ran into this little one yesterday under a round. IMG_3085.JPG IMG_3084.JPG
Found this one today in a stack while moving some splits. Found 5-6 skins too. Dunno if he was the original owner. Let them both go unharmed. IMG_3109.JPG IMG_3108.JPG

I went to turn my compost pile and this was in the middle. It was only a garter snake but I still jumped.

I really don’t know much about snakes but I couldn’t find anything that says those live near Flagstaff AZ. I think it’s just some sort of garter or gopher snake. It had a red tongue.

That must’ve been a surprise! I don’t mess with snakes! Critters don’t seem to bother you too much from previous posts....is it true of snakes as well?

Saw two black rat snakes (I believe that's what they are) mating near some logs in my backyard one day last week. They eventually came out from between the logs and went down into my backyard. A 3rd snake was nearby during when these two were having their fun and I managed to get him moved down towards my rear property line where he moved into a neighbors yard. I personally don't mind them so much but don't want my dog messing with them and my wife hates them. Re-applied some snake-away that evening and haven't seen any since. But I'm sure living near the woods and a creek like I do it's just a matter of time before I see them again.
