Looks very comparable to Cherry on the BTU chart and in color. Does it have an aroma? That’d be awesome a firewood that gave off the aroma of freshly brewed coffee
It was the State tree of Kentucky before they switched to Poplar. Any Kentuckians know why they switched?
It has a smell, but I wouldn’t call it coffee. Just a slight aroma while I was cutting them down. I’ll give it a closer sniff tomorrow. Hopefully the neighbors will be watching.
That’s the first specimen I’ve seen. We don’t have them north of the Mason-Dixon Line apparently. Definitely update us when burn time comes!
Is it French Vanilla or Hazelnut variety! I had no guess based on the leaves or bark. Sweet looking heartwood though. Dont think they're around my area otherwise it'd be a Connecticut coffee tree!
No idea, but then I'm a transplant from West Virginia! Some would say I moved up a couple of rungs on the social ladder when I moved to Kentucky. Don't see many of those around here. I'll have to remember that one. The stump and log pics look exactly like black cherry, a lot!! Let us know how it cuts and splits
