Got home from work at 6:30 tonight and it’s 67 degrees in the house. Low is 42 tonight! Had to fire up the fireplace! Earliest I’ve had to start burning wood! Burning some Box Elder On low try not to heat myself out of the basement. anybody else light up yet?
Oh yea. Got down to 27* last night. Surprising enough the house was still reasonably warm when I got up this morning but the high today was about 33* and the house was starting to get a little chill come evening time. Threw in some uglies and warmed up in no time. A shot of whisky and a fire in the stove, I have to say brought a smile to my face. This is a early fire here too. Usually in Oct.
In about 4 to 6 weeks I may be doing the same thing. It's nice to know cooler temperatures are on the way.
Our high was 53f at midnight. Rain and mid 40's today. No fire as the stove is on a pallet in the garage plus the house holds heat 72f inside.
Summer weather kind of ended for us in the middle of August. Already seen a few leaves turn, which is crazy. Just hoping this means a real winter for a change, and not another bust
Today I cleaned the flue, stove & installed a new baffle. Mama came home & was cold. So... in went some Cherry & Red Elm. Apparently Ethel thought it was chilly also, she was burrowed into her straw palace. She did poke her head out to acknowledge me when I went into the shed to get wood.
Not yet Dakota Hoarder but we usually start burning our shoulder season wood September 15, last year it was September 25.
Fired up this afternoon. 38* when we got up this am, w/steady rain. Snow started about 3. 5-7" predicted tonight. Hard freeze tomorrow night. I covered my asparagus and let the rest go.
Still runnin the AC here. I did shut it off for a few cool days. Then we had rain,,,no big deal. At night we had a good breeze and heavy fog. Woke up and the entire inside of the house was wet. Dang it, shut the windows and run the AC. I won’t get fooled again
my wife made me turn the AC back on last night. Granted, it was 79 degrees in the house, and it got really humid overnight, but still! Today and tomorrow will be in the mid 80's, then I should be able to shut it down, hopefully for the season. Nothing but 70's in the daytime forecast after that.
No stove and no AC. Mid-40's since yesterday morning. Close to 1.5" of rain, about the same as all last month.
Looks inviting but still have AC's running. Just came back from a day trip at the beach on Block Island yesterday. Although a fire on the beach sounds nice...but not when its 42*. New Isocore cant come fast enough!
Brought wood to porch but no fire yet. Thought we might have to soon just to take the chill off because it is so damp but so far, so good.
Holy smokes y'all keep all that cold stuff where it is. Cooler temps in the 70s/80s are ok and welcome, but I dont want cold yet. Remember everyone talking about not burning as much last year and having wood left??? And look at how this grand year of 2020 has been going so far.....
What are all you guys talking about? It is still in the 80's and 90's here in the PNW. AC running full blast. Only fires are in the forests!
metalcuttr How far away from Bellingham do you live? We have a friend that just moved out there this past summer.
Bellingham is about 130 miles north of here. Doesn't sound that far but you have to drive through Seattle (Yuck!) adds a lot of time. Bellingham is a nice area.
I was looking at where the fires were burning and I saw there may be some just east of Bellingham. That is according to the internet
