Just did an updated estimate and I came up with 225 cords cut and split to date. We battled with this 51” diameter log this morning and those that know me, know I’m not a fan of that big stuff but it’s done and over with now. My tree guys keep bringing the logs in and I just can’t keep up - not that I’m complaining. The logs in the foreground have all been dropped off within the last 10 days and are all nice size to process.
It’s been a little while since I’ve last updated you all. I have one more work day (Monday) and that will be a wrap on making rounds and splits. I do t have an updated estimate on wood processed this year but I am glad I have a lot. I currently have orders for 55.5 cords. I start delivering next weekend.
No. It’s delivery time. I won’t cut unless I have to have some rounds to keep my helpers busy - they help me load and when I’m out on delivery, they split.
So it’s time for me to put the saw down and head back to my real job. It was one heck of a year for me. I tried doing a panoramic picture of the logs piles but it’s still tough to see. To the left are 3 windrows that are 105’ long each. The piles to the right are more clearly visible. So after measuring all of the piles and making my estimate, I would say I have 240 cords. 215 of them will be sold this season. The last oak pile (the one that has the rounds) needs to sit till next year before I sell it. If these piles were one continuous pile, it would stretch the length of 2 football fields. What a year!
I seem to remember someone saying something like that last year on the march to 150, not naming any names. Never know what the future holds...
Guilty as charged but who saw covid coming? I hopefully doubt I don’t have the same amount of free time next spring
Thank you! We should all be thankful we are able to do what we can no matter how much or little we get done. It’s a lifestyle I wouldn’t want to give up.
Very true. We take for granted what we can do until we cant do it anymore. Embrace every day...and make some firewood while you're at it!
