So, your 6400 was in need of a jug which Cory@owen sent you. You will soon be the owner of a Solo 665. If you have not completed the 6400 rebuild, you might want to wait and put a 665 top end on it. The 665 is closed quad port. Just a thought because there will be some messing about to get the timing right because the 665 jug is designed for the stroked crank.

Just a thought. If you have rebuilt it already then I would like to hear your impressions of the 6400 compared to the 665. As I'm sure everyone else would. I don't have a 6400 and am not keeping a 665 for myself so you are the man to do the comparison.

Put the 665 jug on the 6401 (closed port 6401, woot woot :saw:) and do the 79/81cc top end on the 665. :pete:

I've done a couple 681 top ends on 665s, they work good. If I was going to keep one of the 665s I might do that however I have a new 665 OEM P/C kit that I bought from a friend. Randy, wants one of the 665s for himself so will have him port the 665 kit I have and put it on a very clean 6400 basket case I have along with the stroked crank.

I thought about that last night. I would think the cylinder base needs to be milled for the difference in the crank? That's assuming the 655 jug isn't meant to be used with a spacer on the solo saws. Dex, you should do the comparison, then do the swap. A 7900 is a lot more fun than a 6400! 681 would be even better.

Wonder what the squish would be on the 6401 with the 655 jug sans base gasket? ;)

Some day, one of the people who bought up the 655s from KRL is going to sell one. And on that day I am going to buy it. Then I will immediately swap top ends with my 7900.

A lot. I think the gasket that comes with the big bore kit is a 1mm.

    That's a good question. I think the metal gasket for the 7900 is about .015". 1mm = about .040"

This is where I need a money tree and a couple boxes of Dolmar/Solo parts.

I just measured the spacer that comes with the NWP kit it is 1.5mm 0.0590! Waaaay fat. lots would have to be taken off the jug to work directly on the 6400, at least 0.040 or perhaps 0.038 and run no gasket and 1194, would probably get you real close to 0.020 squish.

Thanks, but I was thinking maybe a couple months down the road. I did just buy a saw as you know. I'll let you know is something changes. When the time is right and the money is there I will have one.

OK, have to do some 'honey do' stuff so will post some pics later. Huwever just eyeballing a OP 6400 jug and a CP 665 jug together the 665 definately has a thicker base flange, spigots appear to be the same and the decomp is on the top of the 665 jug and the side of the 6400 jug.

I dont think a 665 jug will work right on a 6400 with that 1mm less in stroke difference without taking that 665 cylinder down on a mill lathe or something. I'm thinking timing will be off.

Thank how huge the squish will be. If I am thinking right.

I agree Kevin since the bases of the jugs are different Dolmar is 0.265 and Solo 0.290 a difference of about 0.635mm.

Dex another idea. If you have a stock 6400 01 and a soon to be 665. I have a friend that has a new 365SP and I have a PP415 that we could run the same b+c on all to test out someday.
4 65cc saws in stock form would be neat.

The jug from Cory I put on the shelf, because my jug was in better shape, but his piston and ring will be used in the 6401. I should have it done by the end of the week.

Cut4fun, I wouldn't mind doing that at all :) By next weekend, I should have both saws here and together.

I do have a buyer for the 6401, but I think he would enjoy being there as well. Seeing how he is a member here and pretty local ;)

Dex do you have anything we could run 20" to 24" bars in and use 7T to 8T rims for testing? Start with 7 and then move up to 8 or just run 8? Just so all saws have same rim size to be equal ground.

The solo should be tops with 2mm more stroke and then dolmar with 1mm more stroke then the husky and poulan. The husky and poulan do have 1mm more bore then solo dolmar.

I only have the 12" Cant, but I can either scrounge up a log, or some other Cants from next door (Amish saw mill).
