We have had a cool down also. Yesterday we had a high of 66 and today 69. Both overcast. Have been getting some rain on the last two weeks. Most at night time. Chaz's coworker took this week off to process wood and he is taking next week. So it looks like some real good days for processing. He has already warned me to have the o2 charged up. Lol

And more cooling is on the way. Supposed to hit us late tomorrow. It will be very welcome.

Today started with rain but then the wind picked up and the sky cleared; its beautiful.

    Liking this cooler weather.
Not quite cool enough to close windows at night, not quite warm enough during the day to need the A/C.

It will get better very soon. We're into that time of year when the normal temp should drop a degree every 3 days or so.

Everyone loves this time of year Dennis. New beginnings, color, and perhaps the start of the end of the pandemic.
If one includes the political scenes with the medical it would make an impossible to believe novel.
The Red Maples in wetlands are just turning.

Looking at 98f on Sunday and 57f on Tuesday. Should have gotten the stove to WS back in the spring when not needed.

Is it hard to say when you'll get your stove back from Woodstock once they get it ? What are your plans if it won't be ready well into the heating season ?

Backwoods the turning of the Maples sounds quite early. Is that usual in your area ? I wonder if that means a serious winter is on it's way !

Except for extreme local growing conditions, Leaves change color due to the change in day length and night time temperatures which inhibits their food making capabilities. Maples changing color in August is rather common and a characteristic of some maples, especially red maples.
The first maples to start breaking down here are the maples in the swamp(s) or roots in high water tables.

We like to go to New Hampshire to see the peak foliage in October.I never really noticed the change in color in early September.

It’s more spotty but leaves are changing here especially on older weaker trees

Very normal and it starts in August. As for winter, who knows? One thing I know and that is we have not had hardly any ice storms for many years. That puzzles me because we've had several above normal winters but still no ice. But then it now has been many years with very little snow too. I still tend to think thing still go in cycles and it will turn around again.

41 here this morning, had a take the chill off fire with a few 2x4 scraps, brought cabin from 65 to a comfy 70. Local weather gal calling for possible frost next week with highs in the 50's.

I just built my wood shed and starting to fill it up this weekend. Also need to get busy cutting so I can get back to 3 years ahead.

Right VT. The diseased and weaker trees and in low wet areas turn first and are starting.
    Goodbye to those sweaty armpits.

Mid 90's here for the next few days. Summer always seems to put up a fight when I just wish it would go away. Oh well, Octobers coming...

Ooh yeah, supposedly got down to 53F last night/this morning. A little colder than forecast.
It never got that cold inside even with the fan in the window blowing the cold air in. Gonna need a blanket on the bed soon.
