There are many threads about this issue and I tried a potential solution this week. I’ve been cutting a lot lately and the chain and bar were getting hot on my saw. I could see heat marks on the bar and the chain was stretching. The saw is is an MS250 with an 18” Stihl bar and a Stihl yellow chain. Chain was sharp and regularly spitting out good chips. I opted to open up the oiler holes on the bar to I believe 3/16th. I used a stepped bit and cleaned things out afterwards. Seems to have worked well. I didn’t have the issue I had prior. The saw still doesn’t sling much oil, I think that just due to the design. I have more cutting to do and will report back when I get in to cutting a few big logs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll make this an oil thread. What oil you running in the warmer summer temps? I know my ms250 was a little stingy. Usually a 1/2 tank of oil to a tank of fuel. I was running a 3/8p 16" on mine.
The bluing you seen on the bar is from ihe induction hardening process, not from oil or the chain. Steel has to get north of 750°F before it will turn blue.
I'm running what they had at the local Wally World in NH; Black Max I think? Before that, it was Poulan oil. That's good to know on the bluing! Thank you for that.
