Fantastic neighbor to have and a great score. I knew this had to be at your Vermont place because CT neighbors aren’t known to be that generous... They’re all a bunch of snobs who’s you-know-what doesn’t stink!!! J/K. You’re going to love the beech too. Perfect on those Vermont winter nights. I was lucky enough to scrounge about 1/3 of a cord of beech recently from storm blow overs.
LOL! We have some solid neighbors in CT. With one exception. But hey, is what it is! I've got 6 more logs to cut up. I've also got some smaller beech logs that are ready to cut. And that's just at the first area I cut last week. I'm hoping to possibly get up to the other two areas this weekend as well. I'm sitting here drinking coffee waiting for the time to pass. LOL. It's a bit early to fire up the saw; even by VT standards. I'll probably pull the bar, flip it and clean up the saw before I get cutting today. *Edit: Apparently, I spoke too soon! A different neighbor fired up their saw at 7:58!
Got after it for a few hours today. Oak: Getting into the pile. Sunny day at the ‘Beech’ Most of this was cut today. More Oak Oak and Birch All the gear: This one rolled down from the deck over the winter and is just feet from the property line. My neighbor told me to cut it and take it. My neighbor came by while cutting and told me there is about a cord + of oak up further from here. Have to get in the woods a bit, but there. Told me to get it before the fall when the contractor comes in to clean up. The 11 year old MS250 keeps going! It’s a bit undersized for the larger Oak. I run into a oiling issue from time to time and the chain stretches when it gets hot. Before my next round, I’ll pull the bar and give the saw another deep clean. I’m doing ok! The whole process is enjoyable to me. That’s our neighbors’ house in the pic(different one than the wood giver) I stacked that wood way up back on our property. I’ll try and get a pick of our place for this thread. I know there’s a couple pics of it around here somewhere. Splint more today! I was out there for awhile. Time just flew by. Splitting is so relaxing and a great way t spend some time outside. Wood closest in the pic is Black Locust I cut last fall. Excited to try that out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
HA! Today we're going to stack what I split yesterday. Wind kicked up and the sun is out this morning. Should be a bit dryer than yesterday. Dropped of a "Thank you" gift to the neighbors yesterday. Wanted to show them we really appreciated the firewood.
I did some splitting and my wife did some stacking yesterday before our nephew came up for a weekend visit. These stacks are on the back part of the property. I plan on more saw time at my neighbors with some time off we have soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got after it again today. Some of the gear loaded: Hemlock that will be used for kindling and some Beech and Birch for regular burning. Moved off the driveway: Started on this: Then moved to this. Talk about work! To get the rounds out it was a combo of rolling, tossing and the pulp hook. Stacks on the right are the logs that are a few pics up. Left is the stuff from the rough terrain. Most of that is Oak. Not sure what kind.... My neighbor came down while I was as cutting:”I moved and cut up a Beech log. I’m going to do some mowing and it was in the way. It’s on the side of the driveway so you can just take it.” I moved everything but that Oak and other pile. I hope to get that tomorrow and the weekend. I still have more rounds from the area in the first post of this thread.
