So im at the latest scrounge taking the spruce and loading it into my truck. Here comes the old guy from across the street in a load voice “ whattya gonna do with that stuff”. Im thinking to myself , im burning it in Joes outdoor wood burner. However, with the strut hes doing over here and the affliction in his voice, yup i did i replied “ im burning it in my woodstove” Jesus Christ kid your gonna burn your house down!!!! “ its a myth sir “ “WHAT” its a myth sir! Well, after a lengthy conversation with facts about burning wood he walked away armed with new info about wood. He did have quite a few stories about his days and a sweet old 80’s chevy in the garage with what looked like it just came out of the showroom.
Folks have absolutely no problem burning wood they just cut down a few months ago, but they think Pine can never be burned.
I scrounged some pine years ago. Everyone told me "This is for fire pit use only! Don't burn it inside!" Me: "Yeah, that's the plan." They must have thought I had a massive firepit as one of the scrounges required multiple trips. LOL.
I had the pine conversation with a guy for church that I thought would listen to reason, wrong. He told me you couldn't burn that stuff and I said that's an old wives tale. I said guys out west burn it because that's all they have and have no problem, just gotta get it dried out. I thought that would be the end of the conversation but what's he say.....it's a wonder they haven't burnt their house down yet. I just dropped it......
