Hello to everyone on the firewoodhoardersclub forum,

We had seen this thread a few weeks ago but wanted to wait until our website was up and running and we were in full production before we jumped into the discussion. First of all I would like to give everyone a few answers to questions posed in the thread and then I will add a product overview to the bottom of the post if I may. Hopefully this turns into a good back and forth on your thoughts of our new product and if it satisfies the needs of your market.

Where is the splitter made? It was designed and is being manufactured by Agri-Fab in Sullivan, Illinois. All of the major components including the rack/pinion gear drive, internal actuation mechanism, beam, wedge, etc are manufactured here in the United States and assembled into the final unit in Sullivan.

Can it split tough or large diameter wood? You can check out our website, Facebook or You Tube for videos of us splitting most wood varieties including hedge. In fact the original prototype spent its first few weeks tearing through a huge pile of hedge that one of our product managers had available on his property. Size wise we have had 30+" rounds up on the unit and although it does take a little more handling we were able to split them.

Is there a log lift? Yes, we have designed and tested a manual log lift which can be purchased separately on our website soon. The log lift allows you to lift a log using about 40% of the normal effort to lift. We have also designed it to ratchet lock as it moves up so you don't have to hold the log at the top or leave the lift in the up position and use it as an in-feed table for the person bring logs to the splitter.

How would it handle large logs up to 36" in diameter? With our 3 second cycle time we have found it most efficient to noodle the large rounds into 2/4 chunks and then use the log lift to lift the chunks up to splitter. Better to noddle a couple to take advantage of the kinetic speed for the remaining splits.

Is the two-handed operation a pain? We originally thought that on our initial CAD design, but once we had it on the machine and began to split with it we found it very easy and it quickly became an afterthought.

What is the price? The Split Second Log Splitter is exclusively available on our website for $3199. We decided by selling them direct we could build and maintain a stronger relationship with the actual end users and stay focused on improving it for those same people.

Now I would like to attach a quick overview of the product and our company for everyone to review. Beyond that we just want to become part of the discussion here and use the info to help guide and improve the product going forward.

    Thanks,

    Split Second Log Splitter Team

New innovative kinetic log splitter launched into the firewood market by the leading lawn and garden equipment company in the United States.

Introducing the Patent Pending Split Second Log Splitter designed and manufactured by Agri-Fab, the leading lawn and garden attachment company in the United States. We are happy to announce that our new web site splitsecondlogsplitter.com is now up and running and awaiting your visit to learn more about our log splitter and how it can help you get your work done safer, faster, and more efficiently. The machine is exclusively offered for sale on our website at the price of $3,199.99 and can be shipped directly to your home or business.
Within our company walls we have a number of individuals that either, split wood as a side business, heat their houses and workshops with wood, or just like to split once in a while to support their fire pit gatherings. As a part of our normal future products discussion we noticed a more frequent topic from our internal “splitting crowd” telling us they thought there was an opportunity for us to develop a product that would improve upon what is currently available in the log splitter market. We spent a significant amount of time digging into the details of log splitting for both business and personal use to try and understand what we thought the best method of splitting was between hydraulic, kinetic(flywheel), and rotary(screw) units. We completed design work and/or built prototypes of each style to better understand the pros/cons when comparing each method and we finally decided that kinetic style splitters offered us the best chance to build the kind of product that we thought the market wanted to see in the future.

Here are some of the standard features and specifications on our Patent Pending log splitter:

    1. Large 90lb cast steel flywheels
    2. 3 second cycle time
    3. Fully retractable hitch
    4. Adjustable working height
    5. 7 inch tall splitting wedge
    6. Subaru 6HP OHC engine
    7. Structural steel tube frame with highest ground clearance in the market
    8. Largest work table in the market
    9. DOT road towable
    10. Domestically manufactured steel rack/pinion drive
    11. Front caster wheel for easier hand movement
    12. 3 year residential/6 month commercial warranty
    13. Manual canister and towing marker
    14. Centrifugal clutch to isolate engine from splitting force
    15. Solid steel I-beam construction

We have already designed and tested a series of accessories that will be available for purchase on our website very soon. Some of these items can be seen on either our YouTube channel or Facebook page. Here are a few of the accessories that will be available:

    1. Log lift w/log staging position
    2. Convertible large log dolly and firewood carrier
    3. Tool tray extension to hold chainsaw, extra gas, etc
    4. Firewood hand cart with lid to easily move and store large amount of split firewood out of the elements and ready to burn
    5. 4-Season log splitter soft cover

We can assure you that we understand the market well enough to know that a kinetic log splitter done the wrong way is not pretty. We put in the design, testing, and manufacturing work to do it the right way and if you look closely you will see our differences from the majority of the kinetic units in the market. Also as a company we are committed to manufacturing and sourcing a majority of our components right here in the United States to support our main facility in Sullivan, Illinois which is where your unit will be assembled and shipped from. We are very excited about this launch and look forward to building a solid reputation within this group for both product performance and customer service. Please visit our website: splitsecondlogsplitter.com for additional information and add us to your favorite links for future reference.

Ok, how about a Firewood Hoarder's Club beta test unit? Take one demo unit and let each of us sign up to use it for a couple days or a week at a time and by the end of a couple months get it back to you guys. Build consumer confidence in your product, get lots of the FHC members on board and talking about it online, drive up Internet search results for your product. Win/win situation.

I'll gladly come out and pick it up for the first test. (I have some experience with beta testing :0)

    A man can dream, right?!?

Actually would be cool if Split Second monitored the forums for word of any get togethers. If we throw another bash like we did in Ohio this spring, that would be an awesome opportunity to demo a new splitter.

My local "waiting" list for demo splitting is a mile long so not sure we are ready to go national on that one, but we do know that we need to get them in front of people because seeing is believing. We have a pretty good show schedule out there from Jul thru next May. We will be at the Mother Earth News fair in Sevens Spring, PA in Sept so that might be close for you to come see it in action. Check our website periodically because we will continue to add shows to the schedule as we move forward so there might be one closer at some point.

Thanks for the comment on the adjustable height. We are also very excited and as a splitter myself very much enjoy not bending over during split cycle.

When you say "bash" give us a few more details (no need for names/photos...LOL). How many people, where do you normally get together, etc. Can't commit at this time, but might be something we would consider in the future.

We had a Get together in Canton Ohio this past May. There was about 30 of us that got together and ran saws (some races), cut firewood, etc.

It just so happens that I live just 2hrs away and travel within 30 minutes of Sullivan a couple of times a week. I guess if I had to go on down and get a splitter for test and then move it on to on of the GTGs I'd oblige. ;)

We're hoping more of these will spring up in the future around the country. They are member organized and will vary from a handful to a few dozen people showing up.

I have been splitting wood since the early 70's with all types of mauls and and power splitters.I have owned a super splitter copy made here in Ohio for the last 4 years and I can tell you it will split just about any piece of wood you put in it but you may have to hit some pieces 3 or 4 times witch is still faster than a hydraulic. One of the guys I work for in the tree business has a Timber wolf with a 4 way wedge and a super split is way faster and a lot easier on you back because it's a high machine.I will say to get full speed out of this splitter a second or third person is very helpful because this machine is always ready. If somebody offered me $10,000 to buy any log splitter I wanted I would get a super split and save them $7,000.Oh, and don't forget the Fiskar.

Not sure what the Super Split sells for, but these are $3199 I think they said. Nice looking splitter. For my one man show, my little $950 Huskee is hard to beat for my needs. Spending that kinda money on a splitter would take some thought. I have read that these kinetic type splitters do not do very good with knarly, twisted, bigger wood, this by folks that own them, I don't know, never used one. I think someone asked if this was made in the U.S.A., I did not see it mentioned one way or the other, but I would also like to know. Anyways WELCOME aboard, and good luck with your splitter.
