Replaced my problematic top handle saw with a Stihl 194T a while back. New model this year. Had wanted to use it on another job, but got postponed. Picked up another tree removal job. Taking down a 14" DBH maybe 50' tall spruce in the middle of a yard. Gave it a trial run today. Had to cut a couple maple limbs from a ladder with it prior to felling the spruce, then used it at the truck to trim branches as i was loading them for dump runs. Nifty little saw. I opted for 12" bar for weight factor. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an affordable top handle. Removed all the limbs on the back side as the tree had a slight lean in the wrong direction. Couple steel wedges persuaded it to go the right way. Im dumping the brush from the first load and this pile of honey locust right next to me. Had to take some. Normally when i need the truck empty i wont take wood back to the job, but i couldnt resist. HL scarce scrounge for me. Couldve taken more but had to unload and reload at days end...PITA when youre tired. Spruce sap was messy as anything, saws, gloves, clothes, and myself got a good dose of the stuff. Bucking the trunk produced sappy sawdust that clung to everything as it was oozing a lot. Luckily i wore an old shirt and pants. Little clumps on my arms and a glob stuck in my hair!
Nice score on the locust. Nice little addition to the saw room. I know you’ll be tempted but I implore you do not try brushing your teeth with that thing.
One small coolant leak is all. 10 min fix. Starts & runs everytime. Can't wait for fall to really get going. Too hot right now.
With the recent storm there are boatloads of it. Have you been down there? Grab a load. Talk to Dan and tell him you know me.
I really should! I've been working from home as of late and running there at lunch is doable. I haven't been there in ages...probably a year or so!
Finished up yesterday. A typical load of brush when i make a dump run. Saws got lots of sap on them. 170's gas cap. Dunno how it got on there. Lovin the 194. Handy little saw.
Some of the wind stressed Fir trees we get here in Western Washington are full of pitch in the core. The saws get all gummy and I have a special set of overalls that I wear for pitchy jobs. They get so stiff from resin that you could almost stand them in a corner! Smells really good when cutting though!
