Had my 32” bar on cutting some big oak. Was almost through a cut and bam, felt like I hit metal. Pulled the bar out of the log so see a piece of metal jammed between the chain and bar. Took the bar off and this is what spit out. I am writing this as I sit in my saw shops parking lot. Ugh!
Phew. Look like you just busted the sprocket and at worst did some damage to the clutch/bar/chain. Must have sounded scary. At least it doesn't look like damage inside the cylinder. Still must be a pain in the butt.
Broken sprocket! That $@#%$! Never happens at a good time does it? Did they have the part in stock? Easy fix i think?
I dropped it off and they called about an hour ago saying it was done. Wife is out running errands so she’s picking it up
Are these chinese or Oregon sprockets? I have never seen a sprocket let go like that, almost cut in half yes, but not radially like that.
I know you have that 038 which was a pro model saw. Dont know what the other saw(s) you run. What did the dealer say when he saw the broken sprocket? Had he ever seen one break like that before?
I just run the 038 magnum and this one that broke (echo 8000). I do have a Stihl ms260 that I basically only use if I happen to be limbing. I’m not one of these CAD guys (don’t shoot me fellas). I just like to keep things simple. As far as the busted sprocket, it’s the second time on this saw and I must not be alone because he had it in stock.
