Laid, bedded, and backfilled 30' of drain pipe. Shoveled 2900 lbs of pea gravel.

Old clay pipe fell apart in my hands when I removed it from the cleanout T....glad I laid all new.

    Plumbing is done....on to electrical.

It’s an old maple I came across in the woods, in a place that used to be lightly settled until the late 1800s. There were old stone foundations nearby dating back to colonial times. So this tree is massive, but has obviously seen better days. With that big gaping hole through it you would think it’s dead. The reality is that each year it keeps pushing out new leaves, against the odds. I need to take a hike back there soon to see if it survived the recent storm here. I don’t know, when I see really old trees like this, they just capture my imagination. There’s a lot of respect there.

Caffeine! Almost time for a walk/run. My son will not be going with because of an issue with a toe. Doctor has taken care of it, but it will be sore for a few days, so best to let that rest and heal up. Have a fun and safe day out there firewood hoarders!

The ash I wrote about last night. 36”

Dang shame to chop up a 16’ log for firewood but a hoarders gotta eat.

And the pine is now on the ground. Almost put it where I wanted it.

The pine was probably 30” diameter. Had an audience of 7, so I had to look like I knew what I was doing. 460 with 25” bar for both trees.

We had an oak on the grounds of the historical society here that finally met its end a few years ago. Is was documented in writings of the first English settlers in 1620.

There is an oak standing on a farm in our area that has some age to it.

That is a beautiful ash and it is not a shame to make firewood of it. Sweet!

Yep. They pulled my faves at taco bell too. NLA. I say in the drive thru for a minute trying to figure out what to order. BS! What I got, was nowhere near as good as the chalupas I'd get. They did have a chicken chalupa meal, but it had to be chicken, couldn't be beef. It was bad enough years ago when they dropped the Baja chalupa. Now this....

My friend called yesterday asking if I could use some slate pieces for a hearth under my stove when it gets installed. He dropped a piece off and it looks like Vermont slate. Clean, no flaking.

He brings the rest today, and yup, quite a bit. I'll either cut into 4" squares or random rectangles and squares. I was going to have Vermont unfading green shipped down here, but the price was good on this one.

took the day off. Had the tractor tires given a healthy dose of beet juice. I got my Terrapro going and mowed along the fence rows and where I don’t want to take the tractor. 19AB08A8-5A62-422A-916C-1C6AD21C27A6.jpeg

Inspected the logging operation, and they have moved about a mile deeper into the property. Taking out some maple at this point.

Caffeine going in. Time for some stretching and a little walking, and then a light breakfast. Body is a little sore from yesterday’s workouts. You hoarders have some fun today!

Pouring with rain this morning so indoor chores are calling. I hope to finish the curtains today or at least get close to finish. Monday is back to work so I am trying to finish all the projects I have started this summer. It has been a busy summer and six weeks has flown by. I will miss the 3:00 PM ice cream break next week.

Found out our local school opens Tuesday as well as a few others. It's also going to be hot so I can imagine with all the people it will be very uncomfortable.

I remember the first time our school opened the last week in august and wouldn't you know, we had a terrible hot spell. Lots of skipped school days for sure. They did go back to opening in September after that. But then I also remember them wanting to not let school out until in June. Nuts! For sure these dates did not work out well in farming country.

they decided to start our schools on Sept 9th this year. Usually they do it at the end of August. No matter for us, both girls will be home schooling for at least the first semester.

I've got multiple projects going around the house right now. Today I was ripping out the old kitchen cabinets from my finished basement (a previous owner had installed a kitchen down there and made it into an in-law apartment). When I took the countertop off, I found someone had left their name and date of when they installed it. 11-20-1981. So besides being outdated, it was beat up with water damage and had become a mouse hotel before we started getting a hold on that situation. This weekend I need to pull down the old drop ceiling tiles and replace them, wire up some more lighting, install a small vanity and a shelf area where the cabinets once stood. I was doing pretty good today not hoarding but then I had to go out and pick up my saw from being serviced. Oh, look, the Locust score I've been working is on my way home! I quickly loaded up another bed full of premium BTUs. Needless to say, my wife is not thrilled when I bring home MORE. I don't know what to tell her. I kicked every vice I ever had that was causing problems in my home. I don't drink, smoke, or party anymore. I've got to have something! Cheese and crackers, let me have my firewood mistress and I'll maintain some semblance of normalcy in my other affairs. I need it to stay sane. It's not asking too much.
