Been wanting to start a thread on the wood ive scored from the storm last week, but no camera and being wiped out tired from doing it in the heat and humidity. Wood from jobs i picked up. Getting paid to use a chainsaw and getting wood in the process ...doesnt get much better! Havent tried getting any free wood. Plenty of it around though. Part load from a 22" DBH sugar maple that snapped off 20'up. Had to clean up the limbs and haul to dump. Bucked and hauling away the wood plus the spar as well. Tree fell in his yard just missing the garage. Had split part of the load. Second pic of splits with some cherry splits from a prestorm dump score. Not her phone. From my cheapo flip phone. I have to send her the pic, she then emails them to me and i put in a file just for the forums enjoyment! Talk about dedication! I get used digital cameras at the pawn shop and they didnt have any. I dont pay full price! Some of that maple bucked with your, uh, well my 361!
I cut up the Ash branch, this morning. It was from my neighbor, across the street. Storm blowdown. It's good to get back to making firewood. I'll probably split and stack it, in the morning.
Sweet score! Sugar maple is one of those rare firewood’s for me, in spite of living in the northeast.
Over time, it mostly red maple, ash and cherry. It seems to be what people are disposing of most frequently in my area.
I css'd a neighbor's ash branch, that came down in the storm That's a 4ft rack. The wood behind is red oak that was put to sleep, earlier this year. The ash should be good to go, this time next year. I'll cover it before the snow falls.
Looks like it must've been a good size branch there and nice that you didn't have to go far for it either. I'm a fan of your single row cinder block/2 x 4 racks too. Simple and flexible.
Yeah - the cider blocks work well. Can put them most anywhere. The branch "peeled" off the main trunk. I need to get a pic of the tree it came from. It has a big scar. The thickest part of the branch, was about 15" diameter. and about, 30ft long, I'd guess
Three more loads (not full) of the sugar maple. 23" DBH so over a full cord in it. Been grabbing a load on the way home last few days. One more pile of unbucked rounds to pull. Poor pic quality as it was dusk. Saturdays load Yesterdays load. todays load
A lot of that out there. My storm work has ended, but did pick up one score and a tree removal job as a result. At least one maybe two scrounges that i may grab at some point. Few prices pending but havent heard and doubt ill get them. Still have ads up. It was fun while it lasted and made a few bucksin the process.
The last bit from that sugar maple job. Limb wood mostly 4"+ Tree was 23" DBH so over a cord from it. "New" camera came today, hoorah! No more crappy pics! Three separate trees from a friends yard. I go there at the height of the storm and see he first two Big oak limb fell right by the road. Red maple maybe 12" DBH snapped off from the edge of his woods. End just missed his gazebo (just out of picture) I left and he calls me a couple hours later to tell me another tree came down and was partly blocking his driveway. 36" DBH pin oak with rotted base snapped off. It obliterated two other medium trees on its way down. I was amazed when i saw it. Cant imagine the noise it made! Sadly a squirrel perished in the fall of the big oak. He found it the next day. Ive been going there for an hour at the end of the day nibbling away at it. The town took the brush by the road and luckily there is woods for him to toss the limbs into. Between the three has to be over three cord.
You had better buy some rear view mirror safety glasses. The trees just fall over after the buzzsaw passes by.
