If you see him go in the hole throw some dirt in it an seal it up. They will usually dig it out in a few minutes. Stand on the opposite side of the hole where he can't see you. I've stood over holes and when they come out whammo . Sitting on the tractor with the gun in my pole barn waiting for one to show his little head. He just moved in .

If he collects enough ground hog souls, maybe his will come back?

Seriously though, great advice. I read that traps don't work well on the critters. I think that 177 cal pellet will work on it at 10 yards esp a head shot . If not, I'll pizz it off really well.

I heard these 1377 pistols shoot around 500 fps. This is an old one from the 70's with no safety air release like some have.

It seems I've annoyed mine away.
But there's not much left to return for, at least where she was helping herself and all I see for the last coupla days is deer prints and damage.
The only hostas I have left have fences over them and they're munching on the yews around the house and it's usually Fall when they get desperate enough to start eating them.

I thought I had shared this before but since we are talking ground hogs. Get yourself a bag of double bubble, drop a few unwrapped pieces around the hole. They eat it but cannot pass it. End of Mr Hog

Deer got my green melons last night. Just one left. Dammit. It's only August.
They ate zucchini leaves too. WTF.

Upon some further inspection, I have this 6 foot tall row of yews that replaced where a fence used to be along the driveway. They massacred one side of it. I have an old blueberry net I have been putting over them, but historically this has not been necessary until October.

Also noticed cucumber beetles are really attracted to melon rind.
Big chew marks on some Winter squash too. Sheesh.

Try a radio in the patch at night. It helps but not foolproof. Any good all night talk radio show.

I've trapped 4 woodchucks so far. Got another big mama I've been working on but she is pretty sly! Seems like once I trap a couple i don't see any for a bit then a new family moves in. I will say they haven't bothered my garden, they are mostly just attracted to the giant old apple tree out back, and likely my neighbors unfenced gardens, haha!

Ruger has a pretty affordable .22 cal pellet gun on Amazon which appears to be pretty high powered at *supposedly* 1100 fps I think. I watched youtube videos on them and most were getting around 900 fps. Still seems pretty ballsy for a pellet gun though. Only thing holding me back from buying one is I'm not convinced it'll do the job for woodchucks. Squirrels or chipmunks, absolutely. But for the $180ish price tag it may not be bad to have anyway. But woodchucks are tough! Last one I trapped had a pellet wound in his neck from the week prior when I had a standoff with him. I gotta say I felt kinda bad about it.

Thank you!! I'll do this today. Much quieter than any projectile, and much easier too. Probably less gratifying than seeing it drop after pulling the trigger, but the end result is the same.

About 4 or 5 minutes in boiling water, then into ice, cut it off and bag it. Pampered Chef corn cutter is the best I have found and I have tried a few.

I hope it works out for you, it worked for me on one that would not give me a clear shot.

Couldn't find that gum today, but I think Meijer has it. I'll hopefully be getting some double bubble in the next day or so from them.

It's been so dry. Critters are getting moisture wherever they can find it.

I love these. Fortunately for us, it is a 3 hour drive to get one.
