Very true. I ran a shovel for a summer as part of a 2 person crew for running swing out guide wire for the central irrigation systems to follow to get the corners.

The other guy was in a ditch witch, and I had to dig holes where the power came in, and also the junction point. You had to be quick to beat the ditch witch to both spots. I got to drive the f-600 between spots too. It was kinda fun. It was a lot of work, but it had its pluses. We were by the job, not really hourly. So I'd get paid for a full day, but only have to work 5-6 hrs.

Im enjoying the last cool evening for a while. 3 days in the 70's was a great break to be able to shut off the AC and open the windows! Back into the 80's again tomorrow, at least no 90's in the forecast.

Delivered this to grandfather on saturday. Recycling at its finest. Think he's going to be moving to electric for primary heat source this winter and not getting any fresh cut wood. But there's getting to be a fine pile of wood in the basement all the same

Same deal with my mom. She's in her mid 70's and while there's a wood/ coal boiler in the basement, there's also a lp gas boiler tied into the system too. I won't put up more firewood in the basement for her, not much at least. I am trying to force her to use the LP. She's been tough enough on her body all these years being the daughter of a farmer. She's a hard worker too, just not a smart worker. She's also clumsy too and hurts herself far too much because she doesn't think when doing physical work. I do make sure there's a week or so of firewood in case there's an issue with the LP systems.

There's actually backups to the backups at the cottage, thanks to my Dad. There's electric baseboard heat, there's the wood/ coal boiler, the gas boiler, an lp jotul allagash stove upstairs, a lp mr heater wall mounted unit in the basement by the boilers, and there's now a lp forced air furnace in the new addition. The forced air furnace also has a duct that flows to the boiler area of the basement. So it's all set. I'd actually like to have a weeks worth of coal down there as that wouldn't take up much space, and would be easier for mom to load the boiler than wood, and it would last longer per shovel full than wood.

Coincidentally we're getting two cords today for backup for next year. I didn’t cut this year and I still have trees that are down to be cut up. First cord drop off is red oak and some locust. Second cord in an hour. The way storms have been knocking out the power lately this winter may be rough. I should have enough 2 year dried to get me through any issues this winter. Getting to three year seasoned wood has been a goal that has not been easy to reach these past couple of years. Getting too arthritic and old, but I like wood heat better than heating oil any day of the week, so I’ll still buy some.

Good morning all. After work Chaz did a change in the stacks. Started out like this:
    20200816_183334.jpg
As you can see, only one pallet in the back. He moved the wood forward off the back and then turned it sideways and added a second pallet on top. We have two t-post behind it. He also nailed a board to each side. 5'tall. So now it looks like this:

    This is next years wood.

Going to drill a hole in the basement wall to get my new septic pipe installed tonight. Basement walls are 12" thick (brick ledge)....so I'm going to need to scrounge up a long masonry bit.

My new County Line 25 ton splitter came in yesterday afternoon. This morning I un-crated it and got it assembled. Spent a couple hours today blasting through 30" diameter red oak rounds. A couple things to note: it started first pull after filling it with gasoline. It had no problem getting through knotty pieces and only hesitated a couple times on the really bad ones. Overall, I'm very pleased. Tomorrow I'll finish up the last couple of monster rounds then lay the splitter horizontal to start processing all the limbs.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a 12-18" long bit...assume you will drill a bunch of small holes to break out a big hole?

That sounds pretty good. Grandfather is finding his age at it no doubt, but part of it is also that he had a falling out with his much younger brother who was cutting it for him. House already has several electric heaters, furnace is a wood/oil unit but don't use the oil anymore. Tank is refused for delivery. Making more use of the electric heaters while still having a decent supplement of wood sounds like a decent plan to me

1 stump. 2 trees growing over the house. My phone is acting up. But you get the jist of it. Should save me hours cleaning the gutters. Hope everyone is doing well.

That's exactly what I did. New hammer drill is awesome. Tons if power and impressive battery life.

New pipe installed, hydraulic cement applied, liquid rubber on the outside....spray foam on the inside.

Rough plumbing almost done....I'm slow...learning as I go.
