Believe it or not, yes. 30' long trunk from next door to where i got this (been sitting a couple years from the looks of it) and happened upon a roadside score of storm cut BL yesterday while i was going to the store. Took the back roads and the wood gods were smiling down upon me and bam, there it was. Coincidentally i scrounged BL in the same spot back in February! Have to go first thing Sunday morning as its near a real bad, busy intersection. I was splitting the BL this morning and the mania had me pumped up for more.

LocoBrad strikes again. I’m gonna have to start checking out the Ct river banks for locust patches. Always wanted to scrounge with a barge LOL

It’s actually an idea I had back in the early 80’s. Used to camp on the banks of the river. No $$$, no rules, no cops. Just do whatever you want :)
I didn’t fail to notice all the logs and trees washed up on the banks where no one goes. With just a little different equipment it looked like easy pickens compared to hauling it out of the woods.

Bucked the rounds from the score. Let the 170 taste locust! I hate the way tree guys cut wood. IMG_2924.JPG

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. It would be my dream job. Have some pontoon boat and scuba gear, trolling the river for old growth timber from the log drive days. Probably have to go into Massachusetts above the Enfield dam to find any of the really big logs though. Of course I’d have to invest in a sawmill to make the timber marketable. That would definitely add another level to the fun.

Uh oh, trouble afoot. I have a welder you have any big sheets of steel? One barge coming up :)
From what I can tell there’s a lot of black locust on the riverfront, for now.

Brad has it bad. That BL jumps out at him like a pair of big knockers jogging down the road. Stiff neck and brake pad dust for his troubles.

Stacked all the locust from this and my "I wake for locust " scores. Just under a cord. Wood customer of mine offered storage at his place and he is a quarter mile down the street. Gonna bring only locust there for now. Had to move some of his splits to set pallets. Helped him with some splitting and organizing as barter. And under cover without tarps. Ill end up giving him some wood too.
Stack is 12' long, 4' high double tier on 36" wide pallets, 16"long splits, so one cord when full. I may stack a bit higher as not much room there for me and the way i hoard. IMG_2986.JPG

forgot to mention. I learned a valuable lesson about using a moisture meter with black locust. Never jab it too hard into the wood. IMG_2988.JPG
