Ash Rounds

I cut some ash out of a river bottom last winter. I decided to leave some unspilt to see how long bit would take to dry. It had been standing dead for 2 years but it still tested 30-35% when cut. The rounds range from 3 to 8”. I loaded 2 totes with them today, had to top the second off with some sugar to finish it out. BTW most of the bark is holding tight. Time will tell.

 

But what is the moisture at now?

 

6-7” diameter 33%. I also split a 3” piece that was 20%.

Not all that uncommon for me to find wood that you think should be dryer, but needs that final time undercover to finish it off...

 

Thanks. It happens to me often. Standing dead elm is about the only dry wood I come across.
