An old asplundh guy called me yesterday to help him on a side job. $250 for the day and a truckload of dead rock maple and some sugar. Fun day, he rented a small home depot chipper which wasnt to bad for having the power supply a small kohler engine. It was definitely better than stacking brush in a trailer. Had to do a bit of buzzsaw brad noodling. I could go back for more wood today but it was an hour away. Its tempting because that Dead rock maple is nice and only pushing 23% off the splitter.
That's a pretty good deal if you ask me. Why did they want it taken down? Just curious. Sweet deal either way.
Nice Chris! Arent rock maple and sugar maple one in the same? Nice that you had a chipper. Ive been haling the brush to the dump. PITA but it is what it is! How's the Echo working out for you?
" I could go back for more wood today but it was an hour away. " What? You just might have to change your name there, fella. You might not go back?
Actually i like that idea. Running pricey pro model saws and it doesnt take much to have one lifted. I try to avoid going any public place with them in the back even though i have just a bungee holding them down. Sometimes ill keep one in the cab.
Love the echo, i used it beside the 576 yesterday and its great. Yes rock and sugar are the same i guess, i just learned that this morning from my arborist bud down the road
I keep the cable in the truck, ya never know when you gotta run into the store. Its too easy for someone to grab them. My wife would kill me for losing that kinda money
That looks like ambrosia maple that is a form of spalting (decay fungus staining) initiated by an insect rather than a natural course of wood beginning to decay. Pretty sure sugar maple and rock maple is the same thing. But maybe there are some variations in sugar maple. I've never knowingly cut down a sugar maple.
Here rock and sugar are different; rock is a sugar maple cross bred with another variety. Hardness of sugar with prettier leaves. Probably because Vermonters wanted maples that we’re pretty without the limbs breaking in every snowstorm.
