    43 years ago today the King of rock & roll died. He was only 42 years old. What a waste. He started out as a nice clean young man but like most, money and fame ruined him. RIP Elvis.

    I remember hearing the news about his death shortly after I was out of four years in the service. What a shock for the world to hear and sadly Elvis was so young and talented.

    Was cleaning horse stalls when it came across the AM radio playing in the barn. WLS out of Chicago. I was 14 and home from Horseshoeing School in Stillwater, OK.

    My mom was shocked when we told her Elvis was dead. That was like 10 yrs after he actually died.

    I wasn't born until 84' but grew up listening to him. A lot of people loved his music, others thought he was overrated but it's hard to dispute the impact he had on rock n' roll. He may not have been the first in his genre, but he was instrumental in making the genre mainstream and scaring/angering parents along the way. A trailblazer of sorts, and a symbol from a time when America was about to lose it's innocence and be catapulted into a cultural revolution. That whole 50s-early 60s time period fascinates me. I wish I was around to experience it firsthand. Think of all the young kids that picked up a guitar after hearing an Elvis song... I didn't realize he was only 42 when he passed. A bright light that burned out young.

    Probably know more about that time period than those that lived it (lived it to its fullest!). :faint:
