You are at about 2.5 per foot, if you can lower it another 6", I would do it! I believe in WI, min slope for a shingles roof is 4:12. 2.5 or 3 will work, just may get little more deflection at 2.5
That's what my buddy said too. I'm going with your recommendation and will cut 6" off the rear 4x4s to increase the pitch. really won't hurt my storage amount.
I've set trusses 48 OC and used 2x4 purlins stood up on the narrow side.....driving the spikes is no fun but it is sturdy.
I have 4 different construction methods for roofs on my pole barns/sheds. The small shed has 2x6 Rafters 16”oc w/2x4 perlins laid flat. The horse shed has 2x6 rafters 24”oc w/2x4 perlins laid flat. The hay shed has 2x6 rafters on 4’ and 8’ spacing- lean too was built later. The perlins are 2x4 on edge for the entire barn.
Interesting. Since you have a couple different styles, do you have any insight on how they've worked, and we're any Easter or more difficult to build?
The easiest to work with was the 24” rafter spacing with 2x4’s laid flat on ~24” spacing. The perlins on edge are a pita to install and 4’ truss spacing makes you think a little more before walking along the roof without scaffolding.
Thanks for the wisdom chainsawsoldier . I'm going to do the 24" on center roof joists, and the 2x4 purlins laid flat. My buddy said the purlins need to be on edge, and I didn't see any reason for it. I've seen them put either way. Attaching the 2x4 purlins if laid on top of the 2x6's would be easy to screw into the joists. The only time I plan on being in the roof is when I'm screwing the steel roofing down. Unfortunately, I've not been able to do much of anything recently. Including working on the shed. While I ordered steel roofing, somehow I got shingles. Yeah, the non roofing type. On my face even. So I've been on hydrocodone and in a lot of pain. A couple days I couldn't even talk, and could barely eat. Yesterday was a prime boat day, and we couldn't go. I can't drive, and can't drink alcohol, so there's that. So, I'll hopefully be able to start up on the shed soon. They say 2-5 weeks it affects you. Less if you are young. Hopefully it's more like 2 weeks. Dr said that it's not just an older person's affliction, as she's seen a teenager very recently that got shingles. It's stress related. Anyone that has had chicken pox has the virus in them ready to pounce at any time. Even those kids that have had the vaccine ( came out in 1995), are getting shingles.
Wow, feel better soon man! A few years back I had a quarter sized spot on my left side that was red and itchy for weeks and weeks...went to the doc and she says that's shingles! I was shocked...waited so long to see the doc that she said just use this cream on it for the itchiness and it will probably be over soon anyways...and it was. She said that if it ever comes back again it will always be on my left side now...weird. I guess there is a pill for it if you get it within 2 days or something...I have to be dying to go to the doctor in the first 48 hrs...
Yes. Yes it does. When it gets angry it's a 10/10 on the pain scale. The good news is that the hydrocodone doesn't make me super loopy, so I can research stuff, I just can't do anything physical except for taking the dogs out, getting whatever food I can eat, and that sort of stuff. Another awesome thing is that I got a drs note to get out of jury duty next week.
Yep. I got that pill. It's a horse pill. Huge, but I've gotten better at taking them. The first time I took one whole, I struggled but got it down. Drooling over the sink. Immediately after I got it down, I told my wife that "I felt like I earned $15 the hard way"
