Severe weather hit Chicago on Monday evening and was stretching from Michigan and Indiana to southern Illinois and eastern Missouri, near St. Louis producing 100 MPH wind. The storms are part of a derecho that was moving out of Iowa into northern Illinois, toward Chicago.

Luckily we were north enough to only get rain. I know Iowa and northern Illinois got 90-100 mph winds. Only an hour south of my house, they got 6" of rain in like 2-3 hrs. I'll never complain about 3/4" of rain when it could be like that.

The report stated that more than a million homes and businesses in the Midwest are without power, with more than 300 severe wind reports of gusts more than 58 mph. Also reported were wind gust of 106 mph in Marshall, Iowa. What a mess....weather patterns and conditions seem to be more severe in recent times than I remember them being just a few years ago.

Yes, weather patterns are more unpredictable now. Precisely why weather people have it pretty tough.

The other factor is 20-50 years ago we relied on our local weather station. An event like this is unlikely to have been reported outside the affected region. News companies focus on scare tactics and bad news.

Do you ever hear “community rallies behind firefighter with cancer after tornado destroys home” or “community fundraiser for veteran police officer injured on the job” or “drug dealer gets saved, attends bible college, hundreds are saved, thousands of lives are changed”

Those are just a few good examples I know of that are never talked about outside local circle or influence.

I am glad you are okay and the damage was not any worse than it was.

We got our asses handed to us. I'm on the il wi border. It was Miller time (Miller trailblazer) from 4:00 yesterday afternoon till 11:00 this morning. 3:00 am power came on and let's say I have a 20 minute video of the neighbor's tree on our 6k main from crackle to fire to flash, the end. Start the welder again. Trees and stuff everywhere, had no sleep and I am committed to dropping trees tonight until I can't see anymore. Didn't do a dang thing to the MOSQUITOES !!!!!

Several actually but the Trailblazer 325 puts out 12000 watts and is crazy quiet.
My safety limit is reached. I quit and I'm sitting on a stump and by the time I find all my stuff it'll be dark. Then a 20 minute cool down as I tractor ride home.
    Shower, or 2

I've watched a lot of his videos and I have to say I respect him immensely. His girlfriend is definitely a keeper and has a tremendous work ethic also.
