What do you do with your coin change? How much have you accumulated? Do you split it up? Me personally... I save it for a rainy day or something special... the last time I turned it in my change was either 9 or 10 years ago. That was my play money at Vegas. I spend a bit, but mainly it goes into a kitty... and then I’ll eventually split it up into pennies, nickels/dimes, and quarters...
I have a big tin popcorn container beside my bed. I hate change so any I have goes in there. When it’s full I turn it in for green bills. Don’t use much cash anymore though, could take a while.
I leave it lay around.......store it in the washer or dryer. Emergency fund in the truck console. All I know is somehow it winds up in the State Bank of the wife.
We have 4 separate two quart jars. Gets separated when enough is collected from the clothes cleaning device. Like Chvymn99, it gets consumed on rainy day/vacation spending.
I tend to use it as I go. I guess there is a change shortage right now...from CV19 and people not shopping (supposedly) I seen something on the news that stores want your change and are even willing to take it as full payment just to get their hands on a quantity of it.
My vote was "See how much I can accumulate" but have taken a bunch in to places I visit. Most love it and more than once they said they were out of pennies. My SO has taken a bunch to their work and got close to $300 plus a happy boss. Seems to be easing up again so will start stocking up again. Also keep a big cup in the van for meters or times I just need a little change.
We throw ours into plastic coffee cans then roll it and use it for vacations...Been a couple years since we took a real vacation, but since we hardly ever use cash anymore...we only have 2 cans. Life used to be simple!! Lol
I mostly use it up when it starts to accumulate on the bedroom window sill. Unfortunately it is usually used on a can of caffeine fix and/or salty potato chips. Which I’m suppose to have given up.
I haven't collected any change since Covid as I now use more tap debit and credit but prior to that I collected a lot of change in a routine week of travelling for work. Here in Canada we have $1 and $2 coins so it added up quickly. At the end of the week, nickles, dimes and quarters went into one can and the Loonies ($1) and Toonies ($2) coins went into a second containers. Didn't take long to roll up $25 and $50 rolls of coins. Cashed about two years worth of Loonies and Toonies for around $1600 last December.
I use my change as part of a weightlifting regimen. It's stored in my purse! My husband periodically donates his quarters. He leaves them in his unlocked car overnight!
I’ve been saving coins for years. I have a plastic coffee can with $500 in quarters. It’s in the barn mixed in with a bunch of nuts and bolts. I’m hoping to have another one soon. You never know what’s gonna happen in the future!
Good point. We are slowly stocking up on frozen and canned foods, and toilet paper, more than normal. In case things take a turn for the worse for whatever reason.
I rarely use cash so no problem. Wife uses a little bit but not much. We do save some quarters for washing the car during the winter months.
A (24 ounce ?) spaghetti sauce jar will hold $100 in quarters. I have a few of them. For when the SHTF I guess. I started saving change in jars and it is all still there in jars ( I rolled some - mostly looking for valuable coins- like silver quarters ) These days I pretty much no longer use cash money as I target my cash back credit card(s). If a local bank will give me face value plus I'll unload them. There's a liquor store down the street owned by a really nice guy from India that said he'll take coins not rolled so I may unload them there. Remember some cars used to have coin holders for toll booths and what-not ?
I like using cash, so I get change often enough and I store it in my crown royal bags, that which I have plenty of.. I can't recall the last time I did anything with mine. I'm guessing 15 years or so.. Plan on going thru it one day looking for silver coins as Billb3 mentioned. I've debated holding onto until I get to retirement age and or melt down when the SHTF as Billb3 also mentioned above.
I keep mine in a giant beer mug I was given for being a groomsman in a wedding years ago. When it’s full my fiancé, who works in a bank, turns into cash. That goes in thegun safe to be used for hunting licenses, guns and other”fun” purchases. It usually gets $150 or so 2x a year.
I can't even remember when we last cashed in change. Quarters are the only thing I'll carry, everything gets dumped in a bowl, which gets dumped in one of those "plastic soda bottle" banks, which I'll either hurt myself trying to move, or the bottom is gonna fall out Also have a lot in cans, and plastic pretzel jugs. Coworker told me that on the Buffalo news places are offering free food if you bring in rolled coins. Sure.. free
I collect coins and always save my change. I have one coffee can of quarters, dimes, zinc pennies and halves stashed away for a rainy day. A can holds about $300. I figure coins are more durable than paper bills, and are easily recognizable for trade. I have also cashed in several coffee cans of coins for purchases of gold and silver. I started saving pre 82 copper pennies and all nickels for their metal content about 10 years ago, and have those all squirreled away in their own containers. Since covid I have noticed that some businesses really don't like to take cash, but I haven't been to any that will turn it down if you tell them that is all you have. I have all the pre 65 silver dimes, halves and quarters collected over the years from gifts from grandparents, what I have found in my change, and what I have accumulated by buying. BTW we are definitely in a new gold and silver bull market in direct proportion in the amount of money printing going on now, and low interest rates as far as the eye can see.
