Had to get some compost for the garden today so that meant i got to scrounge for wood. Picked only a few rounds. Mostly choke and wild cherry. Needed room in PU for later that day. (for more wood!) A lot to choose from. Paid my guy when i left and he says "thats all you got"? One of these days ill go when i have an empty truck and nothing going on afterward when i need the bed. Always fun to check out whats there. Business end of the huge grinder there.
Nice cherries! It's amazing what gets brought to the dump. I'm sure there are a few savvy city workers out there building firewood empires out of all the unwanted wood that gets dropped off.
I always drive around to the back of the pile where the tree/landscape companies dump. No one there to see me take wood. Homeowners dump in the front of the mound and i have scored some wood there as well. When its cooler im going with an empty truck and a saw and cut some nice 16" long rounds and fill her up. Its a given that whatever i take needs additional bucking. Im so tired of cookies and nuggets I think im the only savvy one around here. The compost center is contracted out.
Lots of big rounds there! I would get into trouble trying to tip them into my car. I'd be tempted to wedge and sledge them right there.
He has said i could use a saw and dont see a reason i couldnt split either. There was a lot of decent red oak which im shying away from scrounging in bulk.
The dump by me is monitored now so you can only dump and pick up mulch now. They eliminated scrounging there due to covid
Of course they did. Anyone know you can get the virus from wood that has just laid around. It is a magnet for bugs.
