As most know I was unable to put up any wood last fall and winter. The doctor tells me to not figure on doing anything before next spring.

This morning I got curious and took a rough count and found we still have enough on hand for about 4 years. As I've so often stated, this is perhaps the greatest benefit of the 3 year plan. No worries about keeping warm without spending hard earned cash! We do have just a little that needs splitting and stacking but no hurry on that.

Congrats. I do the same. To stay on the 3 year plan I try to keep 4-5 years ahead 'just in case'.

    Sounds good Dennis!!!

I'm still trying to get on the three year plan. I have 18 full cords put up right now which would probably be a 5 or 6 year plan for a lot of people.

This is EXACTLY the reason. I know my back is going fall apart in the future.

Reaping the fruits of your labor, it is very good to be ahead.

Glad you are still doing okay Dennis, stay on the mend for all of us. Maybe next year you can host another world famous GTG and get a few more years ahead.

Mom is worried about all the work campinspecter is doing bringing wood to her place. She seems to think she has more than enough. When the getting is easy, it is nice to have a place to store it and she goes through more than she realizes. The year campinspecter had heart surgery, no one ran out of wood for the winter. Nice feeling.

I liken it to Dave Ramsey's Emergency fund in his Baby Steps financial plan.
Baby Step 1; save 1000$ for an emergency.
(Enough to get by, short term)

Baby Step 3: Save 3–6 Months of living expenses in a Fully Funded emergency fund account.
(Like Dennis' Three Year Plan. This is a long term plan) (like a SHTF situation or illness, surgery)

If you don't/can't heat with fossil fuels that can be bought with cash, then you better have a stock of hard fuel on hand.

All part of being self sufficient. Prepared.
And gives you peace of mind.
Not to mention, when you're panicked, you don't make good decisions.

I probably should have even added that over last winter we were still able to help out a family with good dry firewood. They were in worse shape than we were and we were happy to help. I'd do it again and no doubt will.

Were you able to get any wood inside before the operation? Usually you get X amount inside for the winter, I wish that I were closer so I could help some if you needed it.

We have four plus years in inventory (thanks again for preaching the importance of getting ahead) this falls c/s/s should put us five plus years ahead. Out of the five plus, we'll have three years of Ash up.

  19. usually by mid winter i got 3 to 3 and half yrs or so on hand usually about 30 to 35 cords on hand half stocked were i need it and half outside

Glad to hear this Dennis as you are ahead. You have taught us all so so well, my friend :handshake:

Excellent, excellent advice and I am slowly learning and slowly getting there. We've got Step 1 one down and working on Step 3, among many other things I am working on to be prepared
