Answer is three. Having multiple saws i face the "dilemma" of which to take and use. The 261 is my "go to" saw for average cutting, but decided to take the 170 and 460 as well even though the 261 wouldve done fine by itself. Actually this is a follow up from my Storm blow over red maple score. thread as i never went back to cut it. He contacted me recently about it. Nice and overgrown since January, but shaded and it was cooler and drier today than what it has been so i felt like cutting. 170 did the limbing and smalls, 261 handled medium and 460 made short work of felling and bucking the spar. 18" DBH January pics. Snow looks refreshing! Todays work Ill split on sight and move to stacks.
Great job and nice score. Looks super easy getting that wood. Red maple is my new favorite for the fireplace.
It will be easy. Right on the edge of his yard. I can back the truck right to it and load. May go split some today, but dewpoint back in the 70's so a sweat-o-rama!
If i live that long! You might be a wood hoarder if: you have your wood hoard in your will! Funny thing is ive told my friend where i have 20-25 cords stored if something happens to me all the wood is his.
Cloudy and very sticky today but with a good breeze blowing. Decided to go split some. Ended up getting sprinkled on and a bit later the sky opened up with a good downpour. Was loading splits as i processed. Grabbed some rounds to split here. Got home and no rain so split what i had and it downpoured just as i split the last round.
Small percentage of wood is stored here. Not ready for restocking until the Late Fall early Winter. Wood stored down below at my main area and more at a friends ten minutes away. PITA at times but do the best i can with what i have.
It didnt. I was soaked and miserable...a steambath. We went out for dinner right by the ocean and sat on the beach after and enjoyed the nice breeze.
Usually its the 261 and 460. This had limbs and in somewhat of a tangle so the 170 was perfect IMO. Do you score a lot of large wood for the 660? Never cut with a saw bigger than the 460.
I occasionally get into some 36” + rounds. My 460/461 could handle it, but it’s nice having the extra 20 cc. I also typical use the 660 for noodling. There’s a couple 36-40”(see pic below) trunks that will need to be bucked and noodled in my last drop off that I got. I was going to get a 36” bar for the 660 but I haven’t really needed it yet.
Dont run the 36" bar on my 460 that often. It is nice being able to cut a big log in one swath though. I didnt get a Stihl one, but Laser with full skip chain. Some ash i bucked in January. Usually wears the 28" but have just run the 20" and like it for noodling as well. Matter of fact noodled a hundfull of gnarlies this morning.
Went yesterday and split half of what was left. Fuzzy pics from cell phone camera. Digital camera dropped and died. Rounds pictured were from dump scrounge earlier that day.
