Buddy of mine's dad is the greens superintendent at a golf course in the city. Ive posted a few times of some loads that I get from them. Generally there is soo much wood from the trees they remove that I take everything I can and they still have to pay truckers to come remove 18 wheeler loads. I trying to get my years worth of wood stacked and ready for the winter, and start splitting to put back for next year. I finished last years burning season with a full cord by my OWB, and 2 more by my barn. Heres a few photos, and more trees coming down weekly
It's nice to have what I call "inventory" on site, to refill racks during the burning season. To me, "inventory" is anything from wood needing to be cut or split. Good for you for thinking ahead!
Yes, you definitely have the hook up for free easy to get wood. Having a dump trailer is also key. How many cords do you burn through a year?
Its a borrowed dump trailer. A friend of mine lives about 2 miles from my house and owns it. I think the last 3 years i estimate around 8 cord a winter. Usually having to light it 1st week or so of november and burning to april. Now that I finally have wood early enough to have it stacked and ready to burn I'll keep better track of my useage. last year I tried several different size splits from 3" to full 10" logs and 6-8" splits burned the best still covering a 12 hour burn/fill time
That’s the only use I’d have for a golf course! looks like you get to be pretty picky, just get the nice straight grained stuff, leave all the shorts and uglies?
I take anything I can load when I have the skid loader available I get the bigger stuff. the generally throw anything under 12 " into the chipper lol. but i got lucky and the chipped was broken
