7 years ahead! I can't even comprehend that. I'll be thrilled if I'm just 3 years ahead by the end of this year. Relatively speaking though, it goes a lot slower when scrounging one tree at a time.

Nothing crazy about it. I grew up in the woods and would much rather spend any day wandering around the forest looking for potential firewood (and hunting spots) than spend one minute in an urban area.

Wait, she "made" you get rid of that trailer full of oak? Whaaaat? But....that's sacrilege. The firewood gods will not be pleased.

It's a compromise.......and we share the chore of ruling the roost.....lol

We are to the point where I just don't have much room anymore, but I will be building two holz-hausens in a spot that I need to clear out soon.....that will happen in the fall.

Fair enough. And great plan for the excess with the Holz-hausens. That's the plan here as well if I ever get that far ahead (or end up with a lot of oak that won't be touched for at least three years anyway). Takes up less space and the firewood becomes a work of art.

What an awesome setup! I showed the pic of your setup (tractor, quad etc) to my wife: "This is what we need for a setup when we retire"...she agreed!

Thanks Skier76. Sounds like you have a great wife! It can get crowded quickly when the logs and rounds pile up faster than you can process them. I'm working on expanding my processing/storage area so I have room to maneuver.

Thanks jo191145. This was the setup at the end of winter when the lot was still neat and organized. It a mess right now with so many projects going on.

In regards to your comment about 'crazy,' some would consider going out on a day like this to cut wood you don't 'need' but you 'want' as irrational. I call it fun.

I love that kind of stuff!

Some here will bear witness of my many hoarding adventures using my old snowmobile and a homemade sleigh hauling wood off of my neighbors farm in the dead of winter.....and yes, that's one of my favorite things to do when the snow is flying.

I'd have to dig around for a link because it hasn't snowed enough for the sled here in a few years!

Found a few older pics.....one of my sled and sleigh loaded up, and one of me standing on a pile of wood I pulled off the neighbors farm with the old girl....it's a 1974 Chaparral SSX 340. It's rough, but gets the job done!

    20150221_124506.jpg

Look at me standing on that pile....lol....the good old days!

That's awesome! Nice to know there's another person who enjoys getting firewood with a sled. That's one reason I purchased the Voyageur, so I could tow a decent sled behind it and scrounge wood in the winter. It works great for moving smaller stuff around the lot as well.
