Here is a "burning bush" next to our front porch. I forget the "real" name of it. But now that it has been here for several years it is doing well and changes real red now.

I like this Osage a lot. It's a little sparse right now from cutting it back last spring, but it has a nice form when it's filled in.

This is the wife's favorite, an Eastern Red Cedar. It's about 50 ft tall and I have to admit, I haven't seen a better specimen around here.

Winged Euonymus. It is a nice ornamental but really bad if it gets loose in the wild. It is a non-native invasive. It can take over and choke out other plants. Nothing will eat it, so it is good as an ornamental planting if deer are a problem. But in the wild it can take over as the other more desirable plants are browsed upon by the deer. If you find it out in your wood lot you should destroy it with prejudice.

I have burning bushes in front of the house, about 8 of them. I'll try to grab a pic, full color now.

When we bought the house it was the typical"old lady yard" with a clothesline, lilacs, rosebushes, privet and daylillies. Lilacs have been dying off the past few years though. The smaller, younger growth is rising up from the base, so all will be good.

Okay. So I am now telling my wife you said she likes "old lady yard" stuff. She will interpret that you are saying she is old. She will then add you to her list. I will let you imagine which list it is.

Ain't nothin' wrong with Lilacs and day lilies. Especially day lilies, they are great for places that you can't mow, but don't want weeds to grow. Roses are another story, we have one rose bush that we keep cut back. I have enough trouble fighting with the multiflora rose around here, I don't need to fight with them in the flower bed too.

Edit to add: The pics that Fishingpol added are spectacular.

This is one of the few Aspen trees on my lot. In the fall. Its golden leaves contrast well with blue October sky

We have a lot of nice trees around the property. Our favorite is the dogwood out front:

    tree.jpg

We also have a huge white pine that's the centerpiece of the back yard. I dont have a wide angle lens to get in close for a full height shot, but here you can see the top over the garage in the early morning:

The rest of the treeline around the back yard is maple with some ash and spruce so we get some nice color. I didnt think to snap any pics this year :(
