I don't have a saw yet to use. The 460 is a little behind the 5 cube stuff. I want it to be closer to a race saw than work saw for sure. The 665 is a cc too big for a 4 cube. I've done lots of woods ports and want to do something not a woods port.

Do a 54mm 460? If I had a wheel I would give you the stock #s on the kit. The one saw I've built with this kit is a damm good runner. Especially since it started out as a pile of spare parts.

The only reason I put the 460 up was I have 2 good cylinders for it right now. A 54mm wouldn't fit into the 5 cube any more. A 181/281 is probably what I'll try to get. They seem to be pretty cheap if they're not good looking plastics.

:popcorn:I'm biased toward the 046, but anything on the list sounds fine. Round here you'd be hard pressed to round up enough Husky parts to make it happen. And Dolmar would require the patience of a saint. Can't swing a dead cat without knocking over a bucket of 046/460 guts. Clear choice for me.

Looking forward to the results page:)

Husky stuff is a lot easier for me to find. I've got to check out a dealers old shop and going to get a truckload of stuff he's not moving to the new shop. Hope there's a 181/281 or 365 special parts saw for a start. The 460 would be fine but a no runner is usually more than a running husky.

Where are you drawing the displacement lines? An 82cc saw is just barely over 5 cube.

Yeah I want it to fit a class so if I want to race it or let someone who is a lot better operator use it it won't be 18cc behind. 6 cube is 99cc.

It's a tough call. His 046-460's are near legendary. But my go to saw size is really 50cc. I'm pretty sure both will be ported sooner rather than later. If I were to decide tonight it'd be the 026. But I have some time. I'm going to rebuild its carb and open the muffler a bit and see how she goes.

I like a ported 46 myself. Hard to beat for a work saw for falling and bucking. I plan on running a 28" or 34" light weight bars on mine when I get it put back together.

Another idea I'm kicking around is having Randy do the 046, and limp by with the 026 and Shin. As good as the first gen of autotune and M-tronic have been, I decided early on to wait for the second gen. I'm sure new models can't be too far off?

I doubt you'll see much more than the husky 70cc saw next year and the 661 this fall.

I'm with Mike on this, the tech is actually pretty well thought out, Stihl ran a "pilot program" with the MS280 and the IEM system. The next step really is fuel injection I think but I'm guessing it will be a good 7-10 years before we see that roll out in chainsaws. Stihl has it on one model of demo saw now.

I would think it will be less than that before the FI hits the saws. A few guys that attend the meetings with stihl said FI was the next big thing.

Gonna be interesting for sure. I just can't see them rolling out new models with FI quite so soon after just revamping their pro-saw lineup. Not enough time to re-coup the R&D dollars.
