Sucks being the new guy on the forum, gotta start all over again. Been on one of the 'other' sites for a couple years however this one seems more in tune with my interests and it looks like there are more locals on here. Not new to firewood or burning. Grew up with burning wood but got away from it during the 23 years in the Corps. Been burning as my primary heat source for the last 11 years now and mainly rely on scrounging in the national forest (yes, I have permits). Currently have +/- 8 cords CSS and seasoned for this upcoming season and +/- 5 cords left to split. The goal is to have 20 cords CSS (including the 8 that will eventually be in the shed) by the time snow flies (which isn't that far away). The shed picture is from last season; currently there are only around 2+ cords in it. S/F
Welcome to the best forum on the Internet EODMSgt and thank you for service. I must say- you’ve certainly made one heck of an entrance with your first post! Beautiful set up, shed and stacks! You’re gonna fit in just fine here....
Also if you hadn’t seen this EODMSgt, we have a Military Outpost forum section.... Veterans Information Center & As You Were Edit- I see you found it.
You have big shoulders, you can handle being the new guy for a bit! Great looking stacking area, how's the making it bigger project going?
Welcome EODMSgt , we have a few in the white mountains. Well Seasoned has been having a get together for a few years. Maybe next year he can have another.
Welcome. I cut in national forest a lot too. This year here in Wyoming they shut down all the national forest offices due to the virus and then told us we could cut wood without a permit. So a few more trips and I will be done.
Welcome aboard!!! Beautiful property and woodpiles you have there. I have found that this site is more of a "specialist" site, with better technical information, and has much better feedback. I hardly go to the other site anymore. Like you said, more local personalities as well with multiple GTG's right here in NE.
Thanks Eric! Well, didn't mean to come out swinging with the first post however the old adage is that if there are no pictures, it didn't happen (or doesn't exist). Figured I would at least show that despite being new to the forum, I have some experience with firewood. I had considered joining for a while. Once I saw that you have separate forums for veterans and hunting, that was the clincher. Been eating black bear chili the last four days!
Hey thewoodlands! Good to see a familiar 'face' on here. Still no progress on the new wood processing area as I'm still waiting for the tractor to get back from the shop. Getting tired of hearing "maybe next week" from them...
Thanks Tree Killer. That would be neat to link up next year with some of the forum members. Thanks for letting me know about it.
Welcome to the FHC EODMSgt great pics of stacks!! More pics needed of tractor Thanks for your service
Thanks CoachSchaller. Took a lot of years to get the system down. Just got tired of pounding engineer stakes into the ground and having sloppy/leaning stacks.
We still need permits here, although I'm not sure how much they're really enforcing it this season. When all of this started, I went in early (January) to get my permit for the national forest just in case. All of their offices here are closed as well so I'm glad I went early. I'm waiting on one for a state park here but that one takes longer since everything has to go through snail mail.
Thanks sirbuildalot. I'm only on five acres however it's basically in the middle of the national forest so what's not to love (other than the tourists)? Actually I was reading your post about the extension on your woodshed this morning. Not sure how I ended up there from a google search but I read through that and your post about the IBC totes. Figured it was time to join the forum. The 'other' site seems to be having a lot more 'social' discussions instead of firewood-related, and as you said, this forum is more focused. So it was finally time to make the switch.
