31 yrs ago a friend of mine and i roofed our house, well time finally took it's toll and my wife and i decided it was time to get a new roof this year. Called a local guy, he's been doing this since he was a kid, and he had bought the business from his dad. He came out gave us a bid. the guy and his crew have a great reputation. We were able to get him out our way this past week, after delaying the job a week for a wedding. They showed up at 6am on tues morning and started the tear off. Worked until about 11 am, then they left. Came back Wen at 6:30 Am and started on it again. Great bunch of guys and they really got with the program. They were done , cleaned up the area and gone by noon. Its a hand nailed roof looks great, and it sure makes us feel good about the oncoming winter. I asked one of the guys about the condition of the material on the roof, (wood) he said it looked great, there didn't appear to have been any previous leaks which made me believe my friend and i did a good job 31 yrs ago. The roofer brought a small tandem axle trailer along for the material he took off, a friend of mine said it looked awful small for the job, but, it had about a 3ft extension on the side racks, when they left, it more than handled the left over roofing, flashing and what little plastic wrap that was left. Its been pretty warm the last couple of days so, i'm sure the roof is pretty much bonded together all the way around. So, come on rain and snow, we're ready for ya. Oh, the roof really looks great, it laid down very nice, smooth, flat, no lumps, waves, or bumps, and, color wise its pretty sharp looking.
yes, and they also replaced the seal around the skylight in the roof, as well as all the weather seals around pipes that come out of the roof, and the stove pipe cap, and collar. Good bunch of guys
Congrats on the new roof. I did mine myself about 4 years ago come October. I used to do it for a living, tough this time of year. Had to water down the shingles so you could walk on them and not have them turn to mush.
Glad you got it on and are happy with the job. Also a good sign that there seems to be no previous leaking. You picked the perfect time to reroof. I always say the best time to reroof is before you need to!
LOL I went out to take a picture the other morning and its not that steep of a pitch, so, it wouldn't show up that well, maybe i can take one from a ladder and post it.
These are not the best pictures, but, they will have to do. Color change coming soon, maybe a light green of some type
Looks good!!! I remember one time we had just finishing putting the ridge caps on and the customer came out and said she wasn't sure she liked the color.......that she picked!!! Oh well.
Had my roof replaced in '17 after massive hail storm. I really like the new underlayment they used. Space age material.....light. There was 2 layers of old #90 felt. Probably took a thousand pounds of weight off the roof.
The synthetic underlayments that come in the big 10 square rolls were designed to replace #15 and #30 felt tar paper. Valleys, cheek walls, dormers, bottom course, etc should still have a self adhesive ice and water type shield. The bundle of shingle wrapper will even say so.
That happened to me many years ago. Took the homeowners literally months to pick a color and when i finished he hands ne the check and says he didnt like the color.
Ha! My wife did the same thing when we built our house. I told her to tell the roofers, it would just be more money for them! She decided she could live with them. We got more compliments on the shingles than I ever thought we would. Gary
