    Split this last year and am having a tough time remembering what it is.

    Walnut maybe? Bark sort of looks like it. Hard to tell as its weathered a bit and i have little experience with it as well.

    If I remember it’s between box elder or hickory but I’m not that good at identifying.

    Ive never scrounged box elder, but have seen it at my dump.

    It was the first tree I scrounged up last year. Too excited to get into the wood so to speak ‍♂️

    My first impression was Black Walnut with the deep furrowing

    But I'm not that great at the "name that wood" game

    Looks like walnut but a bit difficult. It is also easy to mix up ash and walnut after being in the stack so long.

    Looks like walnut to me. Box Elder is very light and typically has some reddish colorations at the base and up. Does not look like the box elder I’ve processed.
    And hickory is usually a little stringy, which I don’t see in those splits.
