Really enjoyed this thread, first time I saw it. We did the same thing to our home. Raised ranch. Son and his family up, us down. Did a wall to wall gut downstairs and several upgrades upstairs. Lot of money went into all new plumbing and heating system. Added on a two story closed in porch. Ours is heated and open 24/7 365. All handicapped accessories. No stairs, no hallways that we have to use. ramp to the driveway. Ran into the kitchen issue after the fact. Had to get an after the fact permit, inspection, and changes to the deed. $$$$ Restrictions imposed. Problem comes when you do a refi. Lender will have an evaluation done. Evaluator will compare it to your deed, property description and limits of the town. When they don't match, you have to jump through the hoops like I did. I only got the waiver because we are all one family. The second kitchen is what sets the inspectors off.

As promised. Here it is. Still waiting on the refrigerator, vanity mirror for downstairs bathroom and final tune up of the elevator. We are absolutely tickled with how this project has come out. Looking forward to having FIL with us full time now. Details: two main living spaces are 20x20+, upstairs full bath and shower, downstairs kitchen and 1/2 bath. A very lovely and ultra accessible living space. 20200721_170950.jpg 20200721_171727.jpg 20200721_171653.jpg 20200721_171638.jpg 20200721_171252.jpg 20200721_170556.jpg 20200721_170517.jpg 20200721_170508.jpg

It looks awesome. FIL is a lucky man to have such a specialty built place for him.

    Wonderful addition mike bayerl

Absolutely top notch all the way.

Hope you don't run into too many snags as savemoney described.

I know ya kinda "skirted" around the kitchen area.

Yes, second kitchens are the trigger. Refi right before we started at crazy low rate, so hopefully won't have to jump those hoops for a long time.

He spent the night last night and really enjoyed it. If weather holds out and fridge gets here, he want to start moving this weekend.

Can you find a small apartment/dorm fridge for just a few basics? Milk, eggs, beer.

It might suffice to get him moved in.

    Yes, beer is a basic.

    **edit. Ok, juice

Awesome offer Brother.. but from the looks of the finishes in that crib, I am guessing the fridge will not be plain jane!

All the plain Jane appliances are sold out and back ordered. Only the step up models were available. Cost more, but saved at least a month getting them here.
