Done with my mother's ash, I am able to concentrate on scrounging even better wood. I came across some birch and mulberry besides the locust I recently found. Not a lot but everything counts. I found about the same amount shown here a few days ago and at least this much locust is calling for me to pick it up tomorrow. Finished out the face cord in the foreground and starting on another stack not shown. Because I scrounge I take whatever is available. The front stack is a mix of locust, apple, crabapple, birch, mulberry and locust for 17-18. The stack behind is about the same with some honeysuckle and oak mixed in for 16-17.
Looking good. That locust though is worse than willow. Ill swing by and take the burden of having it in your stacks for you.
I like how it starts piling up if you can keep at it here and there. If it burns, it's gooder wooder.
Since a large portion of the wood I get is from the tree dump or trees like my mothers, where I can drive right up to it I'll keep cutting in the mornings. But I have some ash in a farm grove that need to be bucked that are waiting for cooler weather. Today is suppose to be really hot and humid so if it' going to happen it will early today. I bought a new spare chain for my pole saw yesterday so I was going to do some trimming of locust branches in a City park. Not much to bring home but the kids will be able to use the slide and swings without having the branches down so low. After that I will snag some more of the bigger locust at the tree dump.
Nice job, take what ever comes along, as you said, it all helps. I love me some Locust, getting harder to find around here.

That is a good load, schlot - and with gathering for 17-18, you got yourself a great plan working. It is more rewarding bringing in the higher BTU wood, eh?
You bet, because the high btu stuff is harder to come by it seems to feel well earned. I worked from mid morning until 3 today in the park....ok there was a break for some taverns with my wife and my mother in there too...but I got two big locust and one big hackberry looking a lot better. The kids can use the slide and swings now without having the branches just above their heads. I took 3 trailers full of dead limbs and low hangers to the tree dump. Still have a big locust with a lot of dead/broken branches yet to do. That will be saved for another, hopefully cooler day. Was able to take home this little collection of 17-18 wood for myself too. Kicking back listening to some music and contemplating a much bigger question. Which should occupy my hand a Leinie Summer Shandy or a Mikes Hard Lemonade? Hope everyone had a good weekend!
