I can scrounge from the couch on my property using google earth. Can see the dead trees easier from space LOL
I was wondering what the other species is Steve. Thanks. I was going to post a thread asking. Thought of you and your love of birch when i was cutting. What percentage of your wood is birch?
all you need is a drone to carry the hook and latch it to the log, 1000' of rope for the winch and a wireless remote and you're good to go Joe!
For the next couple yrs I don’t have much birch I’ll be burning. Starting at about year 3 from now it’s a combo of black birch, hickory, and oak. Hopefully that winter of 22’ and 23’ is cold bc that section of the stack is mainly high BTU stuff. Good problem to have IMO.
Dead standing oaks are all around the area here, due to the combination of consecutive dry years and gypsy moth caterpillars. They've been dead for a few years now.
Google earth. This is just on the edge of my property. The Gypsy moths for the most part died off right at out property line. It helped that white oak are rare on our property. The few we had are dead. A few red oak succumbed. If I look at the neighbors property just to the east of this he had a lot of dead trees. The sawyer down the road in the other direction lost 20 acres of white oak. if I look to the west in the big forest it’s basically untouched. I remember that well. My mom was in Europe visiting old family and she had me keeping tabs on the worms travels. They were just climbing trees in our yards when a heavy rain came and killed them off.
Well that’s gonna put a big dent in the bank account. Gotta wonder if scrounging in the state forest would be viewed differently? They don’t really own the airspace I can hear the wardens now. Dang that tree just up and disappeared!!! LOL
Tried to get some work done this morning before it heats up too much. Nice pile of ash split and stacked.
You better believe i did . Gotta get up rather late in the morning to pull one over on this sharp eyed hoarder!
