Went out with my BIL on his boat and a friend with another boat and headed north to an area we don't normally fish. We were looking for the big fat fluke that have started moving to deeper water. Started off on the first drift with a nice seabass and it was slim pickins after that for a while. Anothe friend of ours was a few miles south and let us know he was doin pretty well do we ran down that way for a bit but not much luck either. He said the bit shut off as soon as we got there lol!. So we headed back north to the original spot and landed two keepers within seconds of each other. We were netting one as the other was being reeled in. One was 20" @4.5lb and the other 23" @7lb! It was a thick fluke! All in all it was a fun day on the water and we've got fluke for dinner and searobin nuggets for snacks .
The filets are small so i just fry them up. Honestly I think it has more flavor than flounder but not necessarily a fishy flavor. I've cooked it for a few people who swore they'd never eat one but now are thinking twice about throwing them back. Here's last nights fish tacos with homemade spicy sour cream sauce.
I started keeping the bigger searobins two years ago when I randomly came across a recipe for them. After that first try I was hooked. They're a bit of work to filet for not much meat but if you catch a few good sized fish you'll get a meal or snack for sure
This person says that sea Robin tastes exactly like fluke. Sea Robins: One Man’s Trash Fish is Another Man’s Treasure - Kettlebottom
Haha I'll let ya know next time we're headed out and you can get a head start this way. The mrs can't really tell the difference. She took the leftovers to her sisters yesterday and some of their friends came over for lunch. When I stopped by after work there were only two pieces left
