Are we hoarding a future item to be in short supply?

With of all the things in short supply the past few months is it far fetched that firewood could see a shortage in the fall/winter? People spending more time at home using wood for heat more. People with means wanting a comfort item like a fire in the fireplace. I might be missing something. Thoughts?

I'm wondering if I should cut some of my Ash shorter than I do for my use this year and sell some if the opportunity arises.

You can always just advertise and cut to order when the opportunity arises.. use a chop saw, sell small quantities at a premium and save the chunks for yourself. If they don’t need the shorter wood, sell what you have...

I hoard for my own heat.

    I don't hoard to sell.

If the price of firewood goes up, then the wood in my stacks has a higher value to me. Seasoned firewood is money in the bank, in that I'm not burning a non-renewable resource - fuel oil.

If you have an excess of firewood and want to sell, then go for it.

Yeah, I feel that way about 5.56 and 9mm but I have a few ammo auctions on GunBroker on my watch list. If stuff starts going for a buck+ a round I'm cashing in.

    Firewood...well, it grows on trees.

I live in a rural, upstate NY county. My local tractor dealer said they have been overwhelmed with tractor and equipment sales and inquiries and a lot of its been folks wanting to leave the big cities. You won’t know about firewood sales here until late Fall when all of the folks wait till the last moment, you know just in case there is no winter!

This spring I saw 3 different homes within 2 miles having chicken coups delivered. TSC was always out of chicks. Started plants like tomatoes, peppers or broccoli were in short supply. Real-estate has been pretty solid in our area, especially small farmettes. I think it will be interesting.

There has always been times when people get the urge to leave cities and try to make it in the country. This too shall pass.

    or the thought of a bear. Skunks have a good effect too.

Stupid bear tried tearing down our gate to the garden... That would give some the shakes!

We finally were able to, 4 years ago, buy land and get out of all the congestion around us (suburbs of Atlanta). Best thing we ever did. Other than firewood, we don't "horde" per se, but continue to get more self sufficient every day. Growing vegetables, have chickens, and been planting berries and soon some fruit trees. At some point she wants to learn to can for long term storage. My wife started buying silver bars @ around $16-17/oz, and currently it is almost $20 and rising, so will hold and at some point cash in.

Canning is not hard. You can get the supplies anywhere. A lot of them will also have a canning book by Ball. Not expensive. Or just Google.

I found this on my driver's side door speaker this morning.

I may be softening my opinion on this homely looking marsupial (meaning opossum).
