I was going to put this in Tim's custom chainsaw thread but didnt know if it would be right doing that. Before the days of the bigger cc xpW topends, Guys had to find the extra using 375K topends on chainsaws. Here is a 375K on a 372. So dont let anyone try and tell you it wont run as I have seen other say on another Site. If you listen close you can here when I hit a knot. This saw pulled the same way in shag bark hickory and when I used a 32" on it.
And I thought my Husqvarna 261 after a muffler mod and new chain.... was slingin chips pretty darn good this evening !
Man that's a good running saw.. I have been searching for a 375xpw for some time. Every time one has come up? The timing has been wrong.
372XPWs are great saws, I've had a couple go through my shop. Lots of folks after them, unfortunately those that have them hold on to them. The only way to get one now is build it up from parts. However that is the most expensive way to go.
This is what I dislike about 372XPs. There are too many variations with the same model number, one is a completely different engine. Were they trying to take a page from Stihl's playbook? In this case at a least, they outdid the Germans.
It's confusing with the xtorq being a 372xp still also and the Xpw is the 71 cc xtorq now also. I'm going to port the 372 I have when I get home. The best 50mm bore I built is a 2171 that is in Wisconsin now.
IIRC the real XPWs were only made for 3-4 years, I believe starting in 2006 and going out into late 2009-early 2010. All this happened right when Husqvarna stopped producing 'K' saws and shifted production of cut-off saws to Partner. HVA probable had a pant load of 'K' top ends that would not fit the redesigned cut-off saws and needed something to do with them. Back then the SPW was a different saw from the XP but now the 'W' only signifies a full wrap bar. Full wraps are wierd things, besides being expensive, some folks love them others say they get in the way. Every XPW I hav sold had the full wrap bar but everyone who purchased one also bought a half wrap also. Same with the HD filter and cover, some say they get in the way also.
If you actually fall trees on not so level ground a full wrap comes in handy. I like them myself and try to get them for all my saws that will see use like that. The 088 probably won't get one since I can't see needing to fall a tree that will need that much bar.
Good point. Husqvarna also had a few 'West Coast Edition' saws dating back to the 272 days. In fact I just went and looked in the saw storage and I have a 272 West coast. Can't remember how I came by it but there it sits. There really weren't any engine differences that I know of between the standard 272 and the west coast, bar and dogs perhaps.
Big wrap handles get in the way if you need to cut a stump as low as possible to the ground. As someone who generally cuts "yard trees" and frequently has to flush cut stumps, you can see why I don't have wrap handles on my saws. There have been one or two times I might have liked one but I managed. I still giggle at the guys who ask if a wrap handle can be fitted to their 550XP or MS261.
