My now neighbor friend, that I cleared the lot for a few years ago, always seems to call in the dog days of summer. He needed 3 small trees removed that were close to his house. So I loaded up this morning and got er done. By 10a it was ripping hot. I was fully drenched. To all you hoarders out there working in this heat, be safe! I really worked slow unloading and felt about 1/2 heat exhausted when I was done. Anyway, go ahead and rate my hinge. He wanted them high to push over with his Bobcat. One was SBH. The hinge pic was standing dead. And the long bar was to trim a limb on another tree, which when I get to it, I’ll post pics. It’s a huge white oak that goes over his lane @ about 10/12’. They want to keep it for a sign [maybe], but he wants it trimmed up.
Yes it’s hot.... I was just driveway maintenance... I was sweating through my shirt.... keep that water locked and loaded...
Heat was getting to me today. I was out in it for a few hours cutting. At one point I was trying to wrangle this log and had to stop and sit for 20 minutes in what little shade I could find. Thought I was drinking enough water but I started to feel heat exhaustion setting in. Shirt and jeans drenched in sweat. If you think you're drinking enough water, drink more.
No firewood work for me today. Well, just splitting a couple pieces of birch first thing this morning I was outside all afternoon today making concrete footings for an addition to my back deck. I ended up renting a jackhammer to bust through a concrete slab before I went at it with the post hole digger. I finished the concrete work around 5 and promptly loaded the kids in my truck and took them to the river to cool off. I probably drank 8 or 9 seltzer waters during the course of the afternoon.
I had to soak up some AC. River sounds fun. I didn't even make it to the pool, after cooling off a little, I had to mow. Felt like I was in a rotisserie cooker! Then it was back in AC for a shower and nap. Woke up to a heavy shower that really cooled the temps down. I'm liking it.
Nice hinge, nice wood, nice work! Yeah making firewood in any way shape or form in the humidity sux. . I was cutting and loading for almost two hours this afternoon, but luckily it was full shade. I still got drenched. AC in PU felt good on the ride home.
There was a guy here in my town that just died and they said he died of heat stroke a week ago. He was installing a new window on his house. I had to tell my wife that that guy didn't heat or cool his house because it cost to much, so he just dealt with it. He was in his 80's.
Go easy during the heat. It’s just wood;grass; or equally unimportant stuff that can wait for later, or never at all. be careful on those ladders, too. Countless older folks I know never fully recovered from a ladder fall. Usually jus cleaning windows or trivial things.
it wasn't nice yesterday Jason. Had to noodle and cut a big maple for a buddy yesterday. Luckily it was already on the ground. I guess us Central PA guys are gluttons for punishment. Nice load of wood in your truck.
Yep, it’s a cheapie and I broke it off pounding it in that tree. I had to hammer it out and saw out the plastic left in the back cut as it wasn’t deep enough to wedge it over. I told myself I was going to get some good ones after that. No more TSC crap. I told him I really didn’t need the wood but he has two young boys that loaded it in there while I was sawing the last tree. When I pulled in, I scoped out this big ole SBH. He said he’s not wanting it gone yet. Hopefully when he is, he’ll call me again. Wait till you see this crazy white oak that goes over the drive. Kinda sketchy. We discussed options but he said he can get a bucket truck rather easy so I agree’d that would be best. Ladders and saws don’t mix.
Water? Yes, no question. But, it's more than water. You need electrolytes, as well. Get some gatorade-like beverage to drink along with water.
And I can't breath in the heat. Hard to think of it ever being hot in Maine, but it really is bad for us who are cold about 8 months of the year. We get the heat and that darn humidity that makes the air so heavy. We never had AC when I was young, didn't have tv either, but we would all sit half naked in front of the fan when the temps got really bad. When my mother was a child, they didn't have electricity.
