I'm aware Maine is a BIG state with a diverse crowd. In Connecticut I can throw a rock from Greenwich and hit someone upside the head in Providence R.I. Where in Maine do you hail from?
Mr. Loon. Those towns are in "The County" ( I misspelled it as "country" confusing Mr. L.), Washington County in northern Maine. The stale joke about Mainers not having teethe is that the TOOTHbrush was invented ( drum roll for Loon). A bad joke. Hey, no graduate degree needed. Now, "Whiskey Tango " etc... is a polite way of not using vulgarities ( mil ). No yaks, no goofs. I'm going back to bed.
Loon, I do have a Grade 12, plus too much more. Tell you what is worth it was the Wilderness Medicine Certification program. Could save you or a buddy in the woods. Yet, I don't get your dancing rat YouTube. S'plain .
I'll get reported for this. But the Hamster was my buddy on the deleted virus thread and we did have a good time together. The little fella below just brings back fond memories.
Geez, looks like a rat. Who knew ? They serve hamsters as street food in Peru; on a stick. Now we'll both get reported.
Alright. I'm closing the chapter on the Highway Heist. There is still more to be had there, but I'm done! It's been a good run (late one night I was literally ON THE RUN after my saw attracted the attention of a state trooper parked nearby...). Time for this hoarder to throttle back! I still have some log lengths of Oak and Maple at home to process, but I'm good for this winter and the next one. I have plenty of Ash, Maple, Oak, Apple, Black Birch, and some Black Locust. I'll most likely go after a little more Black Locust close to my home soon, and I still have a truckload of Apple to bring home from where I cut it this spring, but by and large I've had my fill. In the fall I'll be moving my piles around in preparation for winter and tidying up my stash. Now is the time to enjoy this season with my kids, always striving towards that ever elusive balance between work, family, being a hoarder and simply being myself.
"You can never be too rich, or too thin" ( Gloria Vanderbilt). You can never have too much firewood ( Dumf). Get that trooper to hump some of that roadside cache, and get off the donuts. BTW: Maine troopers would help.
I know when to stop, because there was a time in my life when I didn't know when to stop. I'll bet Maine troopers would help... I'll bet when a trucker hits a moose on the highway, within 15 minutes a squad of flannel-wearing goons suddenly appear out of the ether to quarter the beast roadside while the trooper waves traffic through. I'll bet everybody meets up afterwards at the state police barracks to drink craft beer alongside a roaring fire as the moose flesh slowly turns on the spit. As for CT, we like our taxes sky high, our roadways congested, our meals microwaved and think freedom is for the birds.
Ok guys I lied. Rule of thumb ~ whenever I start using terminology like “this is the last time” or “got my fill” or “had enough” disregard that entirely. I’ll never have enough. It’ll never stop. Take away my truck, my saws, and I’ll be out in the woods with a hand saw and radio flyer wagon. I won’t stop Went back today and got almost a truckload. This time I sampled a little of everything there. I won’t lie, it feels good to grab forbidden scrounges. Hoard on and be safe my friends.
Some of them end over end, others I was able to strong arm them up the bank. I’ll be paying for it tomorrow!
That’s funny! I wouldn’t dare take from someone’s yard, but I figure since the land is owned by the “state” how could “they” be that offended if I cleaned up the clutter the workers left??? Philosophical question ~ who is the “state” anyway? Maybe it’s only an abstract concept when it comes to ownership? Yeah there are physical borders, but even those are just arbitrary boundaries to where the jurisdiction of the concept lies. Everything else, the cops, judges, auditors, representatives, senators, right up to the Governor simply act as mouthpieces to carry out the agreed upon laws of the concept of the state. So in a nutshell, I don’t mind taking free firewood from an abstract concept. See I can justify just about anything
